SANTA FE – Today, Gov. Susana Martinez announced that New Mexico Environment Department Secretary Ryan Flynn will step down effective Aug. 12.

P&Z Comprehensive Plan Meeting Canceled For July 30
COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Saturday, July 30 to discuss the Comprehensive Plan has been canceled due to a notification error.
A meeting to discuss the plan on Aug. 6 will proceed as scheduled. A second or possibly third meeting will be rescheduled in the future to discuss the draft land use maps and draft format of the Comprehensive Plan document.
The department thanks the community and apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the July 30 meeting. Read More

Senate Democrats Push Governor To Convene Emergency Special Session

SANTA FE – Senate Democrats have called on Gov. Susana Martinez to convene the New Mexico Legislature in an emergency special session to fix the quickly expanding budget deficit that has resulted from plummeting state revenues.
A new report last week revealed that the State spent between $150-$200 million more than it had budgeted in the fiscal year that just ended, and the year ahead looks even worse. Senate Democrats also vowed to oppose any proposal to cut public school classroom funds or higher education for universities or colleges in the course of addressing the budget crisis. Read More

Vito Peter Pizzuto, 93, died July 15, 2016. Vito was born in Rockford, Illinois and was the only child of Sicilian immigrant parents. He worked many jobs while growing up to help support a poor family. His first full time job was as a tool and die maker for the Barber Colman Company. He then married his long time sweetheart, Helen Mitkusevitch, who was the greatest love of his life for over 71 years.
He was then drafted into the Army during WWII, was stationed in Okinawa where he rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant. In 1952, he accepted a job as a tool and die Read More
