Sidewalk And Stairs Under Repair At LAHS
LAPS News:
The Los Alamos High School A-Wing construction project was completed in January 2012. Flintco was the General Contractor. Over the last three years, there has been settling of underground soils and a resultant drop in the west facing stairs, east facing sidewalk, and weather protection panels on the exterior of the building.
Los Alamos Public Schools officials asked Flintco managers to conduct sample core drilling to test the soils under the concrete. The testing revealed that the original construction fill dirt did not meet the specifications outlined by the architect and project Read More

Of the nearly 4,000 wooden carousels carved in America between 1885-1930, fewer than 150 are still in existence. One of the finest of these survivors, however, can be found on the county fairgrounds at Burlington, Colo, about 7 hours northeast of Los Alamos by car.
The sixth of 74 carousels manufactured by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company (PTC) between Read More

Staff Report
The Northern New Mexico Revival Center (NNMRC) continues to settle in to its relatively new space at 134-A N.M. 4 in White Rock.
The NNMRC is orthodox with respect to Christian theology and doctrine, but takes a non-traditional approach to “church” in both organization and practice. They normally meet at 4 p.m. Sundays for worship, teaching, fellowship, discussion, personal ministry – or even the unexpected – as the Holy Spirit leads, and at 6:30 p.m. Fridays Read More

Letter To The Editor: Refer Respectfully To Dr. Krohn
Re: Dustin Johnson’s letter about the use of Nazism and his defense of Planned Parenthood. I note that he improperly, perhaps in an attempt to delegitimize Jacqueline Krohn’s work in our community, refers to her as “Ms. Krohn.”
One who is not so lacking in intellectual rigor would recognize the suffixes used with her name, i.e. MD, MPH.
Whether or not one agrees with her, she is properly addressed as Dr. Krohn and acknowledged for her Medical doctorate and Master’s degree in Public Health (the standard definitions of those acronyms).
She is a pediatrician Read More

Letter To The Editor: Thought Point Of Planned Parenthood Was To Prevent Abortions
By TERRY GOLDMAN
Los Alamos
I’m not following Krohn: I thought the point of Planned Parenthood was to prevent abortions by helping to prevent unwanted pregnancies. If some group has a disproportionate rate of abortions, relatively more effort from Planned Parenthood is needed, not less.
Krohn seems to think that Sanger’s concern for minimizing the burdens on a then-poor society translate today into an effort to promote abortions.
However, while now there seems to be an almost universal agreement that abortion is the worst method of birth control, without it being available, the individual Read More

Letter To The Editor: Comparison Between Nazi Germany Policies And Abortion Is Offensive
The comparison made between Nazi Germany policies and abortion (click here and here) is seriously flawed and is offensive to anyone who survived the Holocaust, or who has relatives or friends who did not.
The key difference is that no government agency is forcing anyone to obtain an abortion, in contrast to Nazi Germany, where the elected government forcibly relocated people to concentration camps, only to kill them in a variety of imaginative and horrible ways.
You may not like individuals choosing abortion as a means of dealing with their pregnancies, but no one Read More
Buying And Selling A Home Is A Dance
Buying and selling a home is a dance. Your date to the dance is your Realtor®. Your Realtor® is going to want to meet you and get to know you and your housing needs. Your Realtor® will then take you to the dance.
The first of many dance partners will be your lender. If you are a buyer, it is always a good idea to talk to a lender prior to looking for a home so that you know what you can afford.
After you are approved for a mortgage and have found a home, you will start dancing with several different partners. These can include a title company, Read More

Wisdom is how we think our knowledge should Read More
