Ark is hosting a yard sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 715 Diamond Dr., behind the Lemon Lot and adjacent to Sullivan Field.
The Ark was founded in 1978 and operates as a ministry of the Los Alamos First United Methodist Church.
The Ark Child Development Center provides child care and preschool services for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Its governing body is the Ark Board. The Ark is non-profit, non-political and non-denominational. The Ark is open to all children, regardless of race, nationality or creed. Read More

November is Native American Heritage Month and Los Alamos Middle School Native American Club – the Native Hawks – will be selling scented pencils and teal ribbons 3:30-5 p.m. at Smith’s Marketplace Thursday.
The pencils are $1 each and come in scents like rootbeer, cotton candy and bubblegum.
“Smith`s Marketplace has always and will continue to support the diversity of Northern New Mexico and our customers,” said Community Specialist Kathryn Fulton.

Los Alamos Youth Lacrosse has received an equipment grant valued at $9,000 from U.S. Lacrosse. The First Stick Grant awards the league with equipment for boys and girls players including sticks, helmets, eyewear, pads, gloves and goalie equipment. The grant includes complimentary membership to U.S. Lacrosse for up to 40 new players and four coaches.

Dustin Nelson Sentenced For Probation Violation
COURT News:
Dustin D. Nelson, 28, of Los Alamos was sentenced to a year in the Los Alamos Detention Center Oct. 16 after he admitted to violating his probation by failing to report to his probation officer as required.
As part of his sentence, Nelson must pay a $750 fine on the DWI charge and perform 96 hours of community service. He received an unsatisfactory discharge from probation.
First Judicial District Judge T. Glenn Ellington had granted Nelson conditional release in July on charges of possession of a controlled substance and third offense driving under the influence. Nelson’s Read More

Update On LAPS School Start Time Discussion

Last week, the Los Alamos School Board, with the help of third party facilitator New Mexico First, hosted eight successful meetings with students, parents, employees and community members to discuss possible changes in school start time.
Any change would be implemented beginning in August 2018.
The input sessions were designed to capture various stakeholder groups and record their thoughts, opinions and concerns regarding possible changes to school start and end times.
