N.M. 502 Has Reopened

NEWS Alert:

Los Alamos Police Cmdr. Oliver Morris just told the Los Alamos Daily Post that N.M. 502 has reopened at the site of this afternoon’s paint spill.

It turns out that what was thought to be white paint was actually drywall mud.

The driver left the scene and was located in Espanola. He was cited for driving with an unsecured load and may receive other charges.

Morris advises drivers to use extreme caution as the roadway is very slick, and if it rains, it will become more so. Read More

News Alert: Paint Spill Near Totavi Snarls Traffic Flow!

News Alert:

Approximately 50-75 gallons of white paint spilled from a vehicle traveling eastbound on N.M. 502 leaving Los Alamos. 

Los Alamos Police Cmdr. Oliver Morris said that the spill occurred at the blind spot before Totavi near the twin tanks. Traffic is being routed into the slow lane.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation just arrived on scene to begin cleanup operations, which may further impede traffic flow.

Police are urging motorists to slow down and exercise extreme caution while traveling through this area. Read More

The Los Alamos Housing Partnership, Inc. successfully bid today on Katherine’s Restaurant on Longview Drive in White Rock Village.

The auction occurred at noon today on the steps of the Los Alamos Justice Center. It drew two bidders for the property, which has been vacant for several years. Los Alamos National Bank bid $50,875 and LAHP bid $51,000. The most recent appraisal on Katherine’s Restaurant set the value at $115,000.

State Police Conduct Sobriety Checkpoints In September

New Mexico State Police will be conducting Sobriety Checkpoints, Saturation Patrols, and Registration, Insurance and Drivers’ License Checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of September.

Los Alamos Teens Take Mission Trip To Haiti

This summer, a group of 13 teenagers and adults from First Baptist Church of Los Alamos Youth Group headed to Haiti on a week-long mission trip.

The team spent the mornings visiting 10 girls living in a handicapped home and planting fruit trees for residents in the local community.
