As most know, we Catholics have the sacramental rite of penance, or “confession”, of sins, asking God for the forgiveness of sins through the mediation of priests. The rite begins with the words, “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned…”

Los Alamos Magistrate Judge Pat Casados has announced her intention to seek reelection to her position next year. Saying she has enjoyed serving the County of Los Alamos, Casados said she is ready to continue serving for a fifth term.

“I want to stay active and I think it’s very important to keep rural and small courts on a par with the larger courts,” she said.

Los Alamos Arts Council volunteers Sam Nasise and Sophia Salazar gut pumpkins during the carving party held this morning at the Smith’s Marketplace. The pumpkins were carved to be included in today’s Pumpkin Glow. The event will be held 6-9 p.m. at the Fuller Lodge lawn. The event is free but donations will be accepted. The New Mexico Department of Health has issued details about the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

The DEA’s annual Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
