Sunset Hayrides on Oct. 13

Join the Los Alamos County Recreation Division Oct. 13 for an old-fashioned hayride into the sunset on North Mesa.
 
Members of the Posse Lodge, Pony Club and the Recreation Division worked together to create a fun hayride for all ages.
 
The event is held 4-6 p.m. at the Posse Lodge and the evening includes apple cider, cocoa, coffee and light refreshments. Dress warmly and bring your own blankets for the hayride.

Espanola Ranger District to Start Santa Fe Watershed Prescribed Burn

ESPANOLA RANGER DISTRICT News

The Espanola Ranger District anticipates initiating a prescribed burn Tuesday, Oct. 2 approximately three miles east of Santa Fe. Total acreage to be treated over two days is 207 acres and will occur as conditions permit. Smoke will likely be seen from Santa Fe, Pecos, Jemez, Tesuque, Los Alamos, Bernalillo, Albuquerque, and Espanola.  The treatments are being implemented to help protect the municipal water supply by reducing hazardous fuels, as well as help sustain watershed, forest and wildlife health.

PEEC, Reel Deal Team Up for ‘The Big Year’

The Reel Deal Movie Theater and the Pajarito Environmental Education Center are bringing back their popular partnership to show nature films over the fall and winter months. 

The series begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 with a showing of The Big Year.

“This is the perfect film to kick off the series,” Katie Watson of PEEC said. “It’s a birding film, so it will appeal to our many birders in Los Alamos, but it also stars Jack Black, Steve Martin, and Owen Wilson, so fans of these actors, even if they aren’t birders, will want to watch it, as well.”

Dessert Dances Help Create Lasting Memories

The Mother/Son Dance is Oct. 10, the Daddy/Daughter Dance is Oct. 11, and the NEW Family Dance on Oct. 12. Events are held 6-8:30 p.m. at Fuller Lodge and the evening includes light refreshments, dancing, a craft project and a digital keepsake photo.

Los Alamos High School Band Boosters are hosting a “No Cook Noodle Night” 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Trinity on the Hill’s Kelly Hall at Canyon Road and Diamond Drive. 

With an eat-in or carry-out option, the menu includes lasagna with meat and red sauce, spaghetti with a choice of meat or vegetarian sauce, penne with Alfredo sauce (meatless), macaroni and cheese and rice noodles with gluten-free Asian sauce. Dine-in meals include salad, bread and a cookie.

NMDOT Mill & Overlay on NM502 Starts Tuesday

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 2, NM502 (Main Hill Road) to Los Alamos will be closed weekdays and Saturdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. while the NMDOT conducts a milling and overlay pavement rehabilitation project. Work will occur from east of East Gate Drive to the Bayo Canyon access road. Access to the East Gate Industrial Park will be maintained from the townsite.

On Monday, Oct. 8, the roadway will be closed between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Weather permitting, the project should be complete by Oct. 14. Motorists should use NM4/East Jemez Road truck route. Read More
