Annual Turkey Trot Set for Nov. 18

The CROP Organization and the Atomic City Road Runners Club will co-sponsor the Annual Turkey Trot event at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at Los Alamos Middle School.
 
All proceeds will be split with 25 percent going to LA Cares and 75 percent going to the CROP Organization, one of the late Aaron Goldman’s favorite charities.
 
The top 25 fastest runners will be recognized and all participants will have a chance to win turkeys and pumpkin pies in a random drawing.

Community Invited to ‘Satch Cowan Trail’ Dedication

COUNTY News:

Residents are invited to attend the dedication ceremony for the new “Satch Cowan Trail” at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22 at the trailhead near the existing Quemazon Trail in Western Area.

The new trail — with construction led by the County’s Open Space Specialist Craig Martin, local trails volunteers, and fifth-grade students from Mountain Elementary School — parallels portions of the existing Quemazon trail near the canyon edge.

Prior to improvements, the trail had already been in existence and hiked for years as a “social trail.”

Bandelier Celebrates National Archeology Day

Bandelier National Monument invites the public to celebrate National Archeology Day Saturday, Oct. 20.

“This day is set aside to encourage exploration and discovery of the rich cultural resources in the monument,” Superintendent Jason Lott said.

Several events will be held in Bandelier for the public to enjoy.

Accidents in North American Mountaineering: What We Have Learned

Jed Williamson knows how people get in trouble in the mountains. He has been the chair of the Safety Advisory Council and the editor of the American Alpine Club’s annual report Accidents in North American Mountaineering since 1974.

This family event runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes pirate themed carnival games, jumping into the pool and finding a pumpkin to decorate, and watching pirate movies.

Members of the Posse Lodge, Pony Club and the Recreation Division worked together to create a fun hayride for all ages.
