Gallinas Watershed Prescribed Burn Resumes

SANTA FE  Fire managers hope to resume the prescribed burn in the Gallinas Watershed on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District next week, perhaps as early as Tuesday, Oct. 24. 
 
The decision to burn on Tuesday will be dependent on favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality, weather forecasts and available resources.

Stable Mesa Prescribed Burn Underway

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – Fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest have started operations on the 1,950-acre Stable Mesa prescribed burn, blacklining the perimeter of the treatment area. If conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, are favorable, the expectation is to complete ignitions this weekend.

The Stable Mesa unit is located about 5 miles northwest of Jemez Springs, 8 miles north of Gilman and 6 miles west of La Cueva.

LANB Employees Evacuate Due To Burning Odor

Valles Caldera Plans Fall Prescribed Burns

Valles Caldera National Preserve initiated prescribed burn projects this week. The prescribed burn are within an approximately 2,330-acre project area in the Banco Bonito district of the preserve – north of N.M. 4 near mile marker 30.
 
The burn operations will be completed within a 3-10 day period. Brief traffic delays may occur during this time, but are not expected to cause road closures or disrupt visitor activities elsewhere on the preserve.

The Los Alamos Fire Department is sad to announce the passing of former Capt. John H. Snyder. John died Saturday, Oct. 14 after battling cancer for several months. A memorial service is being held on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Los Alamos High School Griffin Gym.

As the fires destroy, devour, and incinerate whole communities in California, as the Reel Deal shows Only the Brave, the story about the Granite Mountain Hotshot Crew that saved the Valles Caldera Cabin District just weeks before they went off to die in Arizona I remember our own Los Alamos firefighters who were first on the line as they teamed with other crews from around the country to save our town during the 2000 Cerro Grande Fire.
