School Makeup Day for Students and Staff is April 13

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gene Schmidt has announced that students and staff will be expected to report to school on April 13.

The day was built into the school calendar as a makeup day in the event of school closures due to snow.

Two school days, Dec. 5  and Dec. 12, 2011 were missed because of bad weather.

To make up for lost instructional time, students in grades K-12 are expected to attend for one half of the day on Friday, April 13.

Morning preschool will be held, but no afternoon preschool.

Basket Ball Reeling Robot Earns Local Students ‘Top-seeded Rookie Team’ Trophy

Team 4153 from Los Alamos High School recently traveled to the regional portion for the FIRST Robotics Competition in Salt Lake.

The Team, named Project Y after the government name for Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project, came home with high honors.

Prevention Today for a Healthier Tomorrow

The Family YMCA is offering free Diabetes Prevention Classes. The class is on Tuesdays from April 3rd through May 8th from 11:00 to 11:45 am. Pre-registration at the Family YMCA is required at least 48 hours prior to the session. Los Alamos Public Schools Citizens Review Committee Formed

A Citizens Review Committee was formed to review the status of the school referendum and bond projects.  This committee met for the first time on March 21, 2012. As part of their work, the committee will verify whether the school district accomplished what it set out to accomplish in its plans that were presented to the public.

Tuesday, March 27 is Diabetes Alert Day, and the Family YMCA wants residents of Los Alamos and the surrouding areas to be aware of their risk for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes and the preventative steps they can take today to reduce that risk. Taiji as Spiritual Practice

Beginning in April, the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos will offer a series of eight Saturday morning Taiji (T’ai Chi) classes to study the Yang Style 24 Forms. Classes will begin on Saturday, April 7th  from 11 AM to noon in Robinson Hall.
