Los Alamos Public Schools Citizens Review Committee Formed

LOS ALAMOS PUBLIC SCHOOLS News

A Citizens Review Committee was formed to review the status of the school referendum and bond projects.  This committee met for the first time on March 21, 2012. As part of their work, the committee will verify whether the school district accomplished what it set out to accomplish in its plans that were presented to the public.

The committee, which serves in an advisory role, will report periodically to the Los Alamos Public Schools Board. The committee will also be asked to provide feedback on completed projects as well as help to determine which future projects should be undertaken.  For example, there are times when priorities in the use of referendum or bond dollars will change because of student safety and health concerns.  This committee will help to determine when adjustments to the plans are needed.

The committee meets once a month.  Future work of the committee will include a review of the 5-Year and 20-Year construction plans of the district.  The committee will also begin to develop a 2013 Bond information document that explains the need to continue the school district’s current school renovation and construction plans.

Current members of the LAPS Citizens Review Committee include David Carroll, Joanna Berry, Virginia Kachelmeier, Joanna Gillespie, Grant Stewart, Steve Girrens, Morrie Pongratz, Jeff Sargent, Herb McLean, John Wolfe, Joan Ahlers, and Gene Schmidt.

Agendas and minutes from meetings can be found at the district website. To learn more, click the link http://www.laschools.net/145910326175759947/site/default.asp
