LAPS Hires Assets Manager to Find Cost Savings

Los Alamos Public Schools has created an “assets manager” position in an effort to find cost savings opportunities for the district.

Superintendent Gene Schmidt has hired Joan Ahlers in the new post.

Ahlers was instrumental in negotiating contracts beneficial to the district during her four-year tenure on the Los Alamos Board of Education from 2007-2011.

PEEC‘s Summer Adventure Program Offers Financial Aid

This summer parents can enroll their fourth through sixth graders on an outdoor adventure with the Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s Nature Center.

Youth can explore the Rio Grande, June 4-8 or the Valles Caldera June 11-15.

PEEC has established two scholarship programs for children of families with incomes that might limit their ability to participate:

  • Income-based Full Scholarship
  • Public Service Partial Scholarship for the children of policemen, firefighters and public school employees

Annual 8th Grade Athletic Night Set For May 22

The Los Alamos Athletic Department is holdong its 8th grade Athletic Night at 6 p.m., Tuesday May 22 in the Smith Auditorium. 

The LAHS Athletic Department asks anyone with a son or daughter who will be in the 9th grade as of the 2012-13 school year to attend the meeting.  

The meeting will begin with general information and then each of the coaches of the LAHS sports teams will have a table in the high school lobby for parents to visit.

First Aid, CPR and AED

The Family YMCA is now taking registration for its May 5th and June 2nd First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification courses.  The courses, taught by American Red Cross certified instructors, are generally scheduled for the first Saturday of each month throughout the year.
