Los Alamos County Enters Stage 2 Fire Restrictions

COUNTY News:

Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective today, May 28,  within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, and natural and historical artifacts.   

Under the Stage 2 Fire Restrictions Order 2026-02, stringent restrictions and conditions are imposed as follows:

  • Building, maintaining and use of outdoor fires including campfires and recreational fires of any kind

East Park Pool Opening Delayed Until June 3

After addressing the items identified during the initial inspection, the New Mexico Environment Department will return to East Park Pool for a re-inspection on June 2. Because state approval is required to open, the pool’s earliest possible opening date is now Wednesday, June 3.

New Hours At Bradbury Science Museum Start June 16

Beginning June 16, the Bradbury Science Museum will be open from 9 a.m.–4p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and from 12–4 p.m., Sunday.

This temporary change allows builders to remodel parts of the museum for a better visitor experience.

The museum appreciates your patience during these updates and looks forward to continuing to serve the community during this phase, and to sharing the new look with visitors soon.

Chamberlin Is Best Predictor In Weekly Pace Race

Becky Chamberlin was the top predictor in the weekly pace race held on the Canada Bonita Trail by the ski hill at 6 seconds off her predicted time. She was also the first female finisher in the 2-mile distance at 28:04. Other accurate predictors were Paul Geimer recording 16 seconds off; Lynn Bjorklund with a 26 second difference and also the best female finisher on the 3-mile course with a time of 29:34; Eric Anderson at 31 seconds off and the top finisher in the 3-mile distance recording a 21:29; and Adrian Medin with a 43 second differential.

UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) celebrated fall 2025 and spring 2026 graduates during its ceremony on Friday, May 15, at the Duane Smith Auditorium.
