Los Alamos Next Big Idea Festival attracted the attention of James Karhu, casting producer with the new Discovery Channel competition show Top Engineer.

Blue Window Hosts Wine Tasting March 4

Blue Window Bistro features wine-tasting March 4

The Blue Window Bistro will offer a Wine Tasting featuring the wines of Italy, from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 4.

Certified Sommelier Ben Niedleman and guest connoisseur Tom Hill will provide information and suggestions on tasting.

Tickets are $30 per person and include 10 one-ounce tastes and hors d’oeuvres. Reservations are required, call 662-6305.

Donated Milling Machine is the Hive’s Newest Asset

Last week Chris Luchini donated a Sherline 5400 Milling Machine with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) to the Hive.

Over the weekend Richard Browning, Jung Pyo Hong and Sam Park have been working to restore the machine, which was probably made in the mid to late 80’s, so that members of the Hive can use it to create prototypes and models.

Teen Center and Nature Center Move to Phase 2

 
The County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Evaluation and Oversight Committee held a public hearing Thursday in Council Chambers for those applicants who have indicated that they are ready to move from Phase 1 (Study) to Phase 2 (Design/Construction). The committee passed unanimously Phase 2 applications for both the Teen Center and the Nature Center for the Pajarito Environmental Education Center.

Receiving the entries for the Fuller Lodge Art Center’s newest show, “Beauty and the Beast” was similar to awarding homework an A+, Director Ken Nebel said. Every piece made the grade.

CIP Committee Considers Nature Center and Teen Center Thursday

 

The Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Committee will meet in Council Chambers at 5:15 p.m. Thursday to consider Phase 2 applications for a new nature center and a new teen center.
 
The nature center has three possible designs, all from Catalyst Architecture. The preferred site (based on community input at a public meeting in November) is on Canyon Road, formerly the skate park location just up the road from the Aquatic Center.
 
 
In addition, as a close-to-net-zero energy use building, it becomes a model for environmental sustainability.
