The Baldrige Performance Excellence Program (BPEP), managed for 25 years by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in collaboration with the private sector, has announced that it is transitioning to a new business model that will move the program from federal government funding to a self-sustaining operation. Even when April days remain blustery, Los Alamos residents can be sure spring is just around the corner when Pajarito Greenhouse is once again open for business.

This year, the greenhouse will open Wednesday, April 25.

Pajarito Greenhouse is a department of CB FOX Department Store, but it’s located at the home of Anne and Dave Fox at 238 Rio Bravo in the Pajarito Acres section of White Rock.

Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business breakfast at 8 a.m. Thursday at UNM-Los Alamos.

The breakfast meeting will focus on the plan to bring community-wide broadband to Los Alamos.

Broadband planners John Jones and Estevan Gonzales will visit with business owners at the event to both show them the plan and also to get input on business needs for the new infrastructure.

The breakfast is free to all businesspeople, Chamber members and prospective Chamber members.

In a few weeks time the space occupied by Central Avenue Grill, which closed Saturday night, will be transformed into a cool, urban edgy styled eatery called the Dixie Girl.

Local business leader Denise Lane began formulating the idea for her new restaurant three years ago and today assumes ownership of the property at 1801 Central Ave. Her goal is to open the Dixie Girl for lunch on Memorial Day, May 28.
