Dance Arts Los Alamos to Feature Graduating Seniors

Dance Arts Los Alamos is celebrating 20 years of bringing professional dance training and high quality performances to the community.

This weekend, three distinct programs will highlight the accomplishments of dancers ages 3 through adult as well as the talent and diversity of the DALA faculty.

Art Center gets ‘Naked’ in New Show

There is not just one way to interpret a theme. Finding an interpretation, in fact, can be an art form.

The Fuller Lodge Art Center has challenged artists with a real hefty theme to illustrate. Eighty artists responded to the challenge and their work will be unveiled to the public starting at 5 p.m. Friday at the Art Center.

Local Teens Heading to World Championships

Los Alamos teens Natalie Smith and Maria Jones are traveling to Wexford, Ireland to compete in the CRN World Open Championships June 2-3. The girls are students at the Belisama Irish Dance, founded in 2006 in Santa Fe and Los Alamos. Smith won the Regional Championships in the under-19 category this spring, and Jones was the 2010 North American Champion in the under-14 category. Both are Craobh Grad dancers, the highest level of dance in the CRN organization. WHITE ROCK’S ART & ARTISANS MARKET: Call for Exhibitors

The Los Alamos Creative District is now accepting applications for exhibitors/vendors from throughout the area to display and sell their work at the White Rock Art and Artisans Market.

The market will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., each Sunday from June 10 until Oct. 21 and is free to the public.

The location will be an outdoor space at the Hive at 134 N.M. 4 in White Rock where about 40 tents and tables can be accommodated.

The Hive is close by the parking and shuttle stop for the Bandelier National Monument shuttle, which begins in June. All visitors going to Bandelier will be required to use this shuttle. Read More

Fuller Lodge Starting Friday: Hidden Cultures Unmasked – A Global Photographic Journey with Hal Davis

An opening reception at Fuller Lodge Art Center from 5-7 p.m., Friday May 18, in the side Portal Gallery will present 22 photographs from around the globe taken by local photographer Hal Davis. The exhibit, Hidden Cultures Unmasked – A Global Photographic Journey with Hal Davis, reflects his interest in photographing foreign cultures that are in transition from traditional ways to modernity. NMDT SPRING RECITAL “The Sky’s the Limit”

NEW MEXICO DANCE THEATER News

New Mexico Dance Theater (NMDT), directed by Susan Baker-Dillingham, presents it’s eighth annual spring recital, “The Sky’s the Limit,” this weekend. “Spring recitals are a chance for each student to shine and perform for their families and friends,” said Baker-Dillingham. “We usually have a theme for our recitals, but this year I wanted to give the faculty free reign in choosing a theme for each of their classes; hence, the sky was the limit.”

Hasbrouck Wins Bandelier Photo Contest

Richard T. Hasbrouck of Truchas won first place in the 2013 Bandelier Annual Pass Photo and Art competition. His winning photo was among 96 entries submitted by 33 photographers and artists from across the United States and exhibited at Fuller Lodge recently. Hasbrouck, a retired electrical engineer from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, won an annual park pass, a copy of the award-winning movie Sky Island, narrated by Meryl Streep and N.
