Let’s Go Fly A Kite With Los Alamos Arts Council!

Come one, come all! It’s time to fly kites! Los Alamos Arts Council presents the 22nd Annual Kite Festival. Kids of all ages are invited to the Spiro Soccer Fields at Overlook Park in White Rock.

The arts council  will hold Kite Building workshops noon to 2 p.m. Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19.

Los Alamos Arts Council volunteers will help children build kites, or just give them guidance in designing a kite if they are of the age that they just want to color.

LOS ALAMOS HISTORICAL SOCIETY News:

The Reykjavík Summit, held on October 11 and 12, 1986, was considered by many experts to be a turning point in the Cold War. During those two days in Reykjavik, Iceland, President Ronald Reagan and Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev debated terms for nuclear arms reduction.

Though the two leaders ultimately failed to reach an agreement, at times during the talks both countries were on the verge of eliminating nuclear weapons.

Los Alamos authors Teralene Foxx and Craig Martin recently published the third in their series of books titled “Plants of the Jemez Mountains”.

The third volume focuses on the Sunflower Family. This family of flowering plants is so large it gets its own book, Martin said.
