School Board Business Targets Bus Loop and Budget

The Los Alamos Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Speech Theater at Los Alamos High School for a work session immediately following a special school board meeting.
The agendas include an update from the LAHS Bus Loop Committee and discussion on the LAPS 2012-13 budget.

Property Tax Bills Due May 10
COUNTY News:
The second-half installment of the 2011 Property Tax Bills became due Tuesday, April 10 and will be considered delinquent after Thursday, May 10.
Payment must either be made in person at the 311 Customer Care Center by 5 p.m. on May 10 or postmarked by midnight that same day to avoid late payment penalty and interest charges.
The 311 Customer Care Center is located at 150 Central Park Square and open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Payments also can be mailed to P.O. Box 99, Los Alamos, NM 87544.

After 19 years as a preschool and 29 years as an afterschool program through White Rock United Methodist Church (WRUMC), Horizons Preschool and Daycare is becoming its own entity.

Beautiful music was wafting from the band room at Los Alamos High School as the Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra (LASO) rehearsed for their Spring Concert, but a passerby may not have recognized the melodies.
LASO will perform “Polonaise” by Antonin Dvorak.

Parks Manager Seeks Public Input on Younger, Older and Tired Dog Safety Issues
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County Parks Manager Dick McIntyre will meet with users of the east side dog park at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The meeting is in regard to recent requests to add space at the park for younger, older and tired dogs to play safely.
To meet these requests would require adding more fencing, at a relatively minor expense, to the existing dog park located inside East Park.

Classic Cars Take Tour Through Bandelier
All lined up in the Bandelier parking lot, these classic cars drew a lot of admirers Friday. The cars were Cord and Auburn automobiles from the 1930s and made in America. They were quite ahead of their time with front wheel drive, supercharged V8 engines, very aerodynamic styling, concealed door hinges … some even had headlights that turned direction along with the front wheels when turning a corner. These special automobiles were very expensive in their day, costing more than the average house (car $2,700, house $2,000). The Cord Auburn company went out of business around 1937-1938. National Park Week runs through April 29 and Bandelier National Monument is offering opportunities both in Los Alamos and at the park to celebrate National Park Week.

Vehicle Plows into McDonalds
A vehicle crashed into the front wall of McDonald’s at 1247 Trinity Dr. this morning. People were sitting at tables eating on the other side of the wall where the impact occurred. Employees said no one was injured and that they believe the 95-year-old driver was parked and he inadvertently put the car in drive rather than reverse and stepped on the accelerator when attempting to leave the restaurant.
