Dog Jog 2012 Results
The 2012 Friends of the Shelter Dog Jog was held Saturday, April 28th. Dog Jog sponsor Pet Pangaea has provided photos and results from this years jog. The 2012 Los Alamos Dog Jog was coordinated by the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club, Mountain Canine Corps, and the Atomic City Roadrunners as a fund raising benefit for the Friends of the Shelter.

Quality New Mexico Accepting Applications for 2012 NM Performance Excellence Awards
Quality New Mexico is accepting applications for the 2012 New Mexico Performance Excellence Awards.
The New Mexico Performance Excellence Awards, modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, provide participating organizations with feedback on their strengths and their opportunities for improvement.
This feedback is based on the time-tested Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence, which provides an assessment framework to gauge organizational performance.
The awards, which will be awarded next spring, include:

Forbes has published its list of the richest counties in the United States.
Los Alamos comes in fourth and four suburbs in Washington, D.C. comprise the other wealthiest counties on the top five list.
The top five:
- Loudoun County, Virginia: $115,574 median household income
- Falls Church City, Virginia: $114,409
- Fairfax County, Virginia: $105,416
- Los Alamos County, New Mexico: $103,643
- Howard County, Maryland: $103,273
Mesa Public Library to Host Display of Historic J. Robert Oppenheimer Photographs

The J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee (JROMC) will present an exhibit of historic photos entitled “J. Robert Oppenheimer: Photographs From His Life: 1904 – 1967” at the Mesa Public Library Gallery, 2400 Central Ave. from May 2 to May 30. The public is encouraged to visit the exhibit.
An opening reception will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. May 3, at the Mesa Public Library Gallery upstairs. Refreshments will be served and members of the JROMC will be on hand to answer questions.

Los Alamos GOP County Quadrennial Convention Set for May 17
GOP News:
Call is hereby made for the 2012 Quadrennial Los Alamos Republican Convention on Thursday, May 2012, at the Los Alamos VFW, 1793 Deacon St., and for a Los Alamos Central Committee meeting to be held at 7 p.m., immediately preceding the Convention.
Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and doors close promptly at 7 p.m.
All registered Republicans are invited to attend.
The Los Alamos County Central Committee Meeting will start at 7 p.m.
Immediately following, Ward Caucuses will be held to elect ward delegates to the County Quadrennial Convention.

Joan Logghe brings her two-year stint as Santa Fe Poet Laureate to a close with a very special exhibition, “Odes and Offerings,” at the Santa Fe Community Gallery.
Local artists were paired with local poets and the artists chose part of the text of the poem to include in their piece.
All the pieces were created specifically for this show.
Thirty-six works of art and 36 poems are included.

JANET LUCILLE FOWLER
June 3, 1919 – April 26, 2012
Janet Lucille Brown Fowler was born on June 3, 1919, in Bucyrus, Ohio, the daughter of Neva and Carl Brown. She graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1937 and moved to Cleveland, where she completed Nurse’s Training at St. Luke’s Hospital, received her RN degree, and then worked there as a nurse.
She met Max Fowler in Cleveland and they were married in 1942. Six months later Max joined the U.S. Navy and the newlyweds moved to Annapolis, Maryland. They lived there throughout World War II, Max teaching at the Naval Academy and Janet working Read More
DPU Replacing 13 Power Poles in White Rock in May – Brief Power Interruptions Expected
Electric upgrades associated with REDI‐Net, the Regional Economic Development Initiative’s Broadband “Middle Mile” network, may cause brief power interruptions as 13 power poles are replaced in White Rock during May.
The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will oversee the pole replacement project in early May, along a pole corridor extending from Sherwood Boulevard to Overlook Park, and from N.M. 4 to Piñon Elementary School.

Community Water Tank Rehab Reason for Minor Water Issues

Residents around downtown Los Alamos may be experiencing minor affects from the drainage, lead abatement, repair and repainting underway on the community water tank above 47th Street and Trinity Drive.
