Local Fire Agencies Warn About Fall Fire Danger!
LAFD News:
Local Fire Agencies Warn About Fall Fire Danger – Please Be Fire Safe!
As the fall and winter holidays approach and more New Mexicans plan vacations or hunting trips close to home, local, federal and state fire agencies are urging caution about fire danger across many parts of the state.
Lack of moisture and warm mild conditions this fall have caused fine, grassy fuels and brush to dry, making them susceptible to wildfire.
While the immediate region shows Northern New Mexico at “High” Fire Danger risk, Los Alamos County will remain at “Moderate” risk until there is snow on the ground and

Zombies Break Free From Los Alamos Jail
Local residents are asked to be on the lookout for a pair of incarcerated zombies who broke out of the Los Alamos County Jail earlier today. Pictured is the zombie thought to be the ringleader in planning the daring escape. He bears a striking resemblance to Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy. His accomplice shown standing behind him looks a lot like Philo Shelton who runs the County’s Public Works Department. Authorities urge the public NOT to approach these fugitives as they are considered somewhat weird and extremely dangerous. Photo by Katy Korkos Read More

Money IQHow Closely Should You Monitor Your Credit?
Your credit report provides a financial overview to current and future creditors and is reviewed when lending decisions are made for credit cards, car loans, mortgages, etc.

Letter to the Editor: Protect Our House
By Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M.
I urge you to vote and to vote for Stephanie Garcia Richard for State Representative.
For a long time, our State has avoided much of the partisan politics that have divided our Nation.
With this election, things have obviously changed.
Our State is no longer shielded from third party groups infiltrating our elections, our legislature, and our local governments.
Out-of-state corporations have learned one thing over the last decade: to have influence you must control members of the state legislature.
This election is about more than just getting a good friend elected Read More

History Nuts Column: What Makes Our Historic District a Special Place?

Column by Janie O’Rourke
History is an integral part of the landscape that surrounds us. The lives and actions of those who have come before us have created, layer upon layer, the places in which we live.
Historic districts are special areas set aside to protect pieces of these layers: historic and archaeological sites, historic buildings, and even viewsheds or cultural landscapes without manmade structures.
Here in Los Alamos we are fortunate to have a historic district located in our downtown.
If you have attended a lecture or concert at Fuller Lodge or strolled across Read More

Asterman’s Movie Reviews for Pitch Perfect, Seven Psychopaths and Paranormal Activity 4
The Deal Down Movie Reviews by Rick Asterman
(Film score range: +1, 0 or –1)
Pitch Perfect
+1
Advisory – Gleefully vulgar. The whole time I was watching the film, I was convinced of two things: how unbelievable I felt actually enjoying the movie, how obvious it was the film was just barely pared down from an R-Rating. Any kid mature enough to watch the original Austin Powers movie should be fine with Pitch Perfect, but it still remains a judgment call for the parents.
The greatest positive of writing movie reviews is when, against all odds, the film you’d instinctively avoid otherwise inverts your Read More

Whether you are a sole-proprietor, LLC, partnership or corporation, business taxes are a fact of life.
While you were running your business this year, new tax law was being enacted and changes were being made to the current tax code.

It is important as a business owner to understand what expenses can be deducted from tax returns.
There is a distinct difference between sole-proprietor Read More
