Public Invited to Ashley Pond Park Renovation Meeting

COUNTY News:

The County will hold an informational meeting to show the public the 90 percent Final Design Plans for Ashley Pond Park renovations at 5:30 p.m. on  Wednesday, Nov. 14 in the Pajarito Room at Fuller Lodge.

County Parks Manager Dick McIntyre and the consultant, Sites Southwest LLC, will present the plans for upcoming construction.

The County is scheduled to issue the Notice to Proceed in February 2013. The project will be sent out for construction bids in late December and the bid is expected to be awarded by Council by the end of January.

This project was funded by the County Council as part of the County’s Capital Improvement Program with a project budget of $2.2 million.

The changes include improvements to the pond structure that will improve ADA accessibility, enhance water quality and resolve storm water drainage issues, plus construction of new sidewalks and bulkheads around the pond, new landscaping and water features, and a new concert stage at the southeast corner of the pond with the infrastructure for a sound system.

To make the necessary improvements, the pond will be closed in February so that it can be drained. The ducks will be relocated by the local group, the Duck Buddies.

Staging for the contractor’s equipment will be contained to the west end of the 20th Street/Trinity Parking lot and the east end of the Justice Center’s Trinity Drive parking lot.

The County expects to re-open and re-dedicate the pond and park in August 2013.

The 90 percent final design plans will be displayed on the project webpage after the meeting.

Residents can also sign up for a project newsletter on the project webpage to receive updates as construction proceeds.
