Leonard is Top Predictor in Weekly Pace Race

ATOMIC ROAD RUNNERS News:

Erik Leonard was the fastest for the 1-mile predict-your-time pace race in 8:14 and was only one second off his prediction.

A total of 41 people did the weekly Tuesday pace races, which were held on paved roads in Pajarito Acres under cloudy skies.

For the one mile course, the fastest female runner was Michelle Jones (9:39). The best female predictors were Inez Ross (10 s off her prediction), Darby Kellum and D J Kliesen (both 13 s). Zach Leonard did the 1 mile run in 8:16, and Morgan Jones did 10:47.

Bingaman to Address LANL Employees Monday

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman will be in Los Alamos Monday, Aug. 13 and will address Los Alamos National Laboratory employees.
 
Bingaman will talk about the economy, the federal deficit and what Congress can do to address these issues, among other things.

OBITUARY: Jean Banta Balestrini April 2, 1926 – July 9, 2012

Jean Banta Balestrini, 86, longtime resident of Los Alamos died July 9th, 2012, surrounded by family at Sombrillo Nursing home. She was born on April 2, 1926 in Los Angeles California to Francis and Mary Banta.

Jean Graduated from Fresno State College with a degree in education in 1948. She married Silvio J Balestrini June 22, 1948, in Berkley, California. Jean worked as a teacher and librarian while Silvio completed his PhD in physics at UC Berkeley. Jean and Silvio, with their 3-year-old son, John, moved to Los Alamos in June of 1954. The Los Alamos Recreation Division will be holding the Los Alamos County Rodeo on Aug.11-12 at Brewer Arena on North Mesa.

My friend Karyl Ann Armbruster and her 2-year-old “son” Oz Einstein Armbruster were out talking with voters last week about U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich who is running for the U.S. Senate.

 

The plan was to canvas a few more houses on her list, go home, clean up, and attend the Martin Heinrich event a few hours later.

 

Unfortunately, after talking for several minutes at one particular residence, a 50-pound dog suddenly charged out of the house and attacked little 16-pound Oz who was straining on his leash five-feet away.

To accomplish our mission, Los Alamos National Laboratory generates some hazardous and mixed waste.

In November 2010, the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) issued the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Hazardous Waste Facility Permit.

The Permit establishes standards for how LANL manages, stores and treats hazardous wastes on-site and for the closure and post-closure care of permitted waste management units.

Chief Operating Officer John T. Duff of the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department’s Securities Division and former controller Greg Michael Campbell were booked at 9:08 a.m. today into the Santa Fe County Jail.

Minor Injuries Reported in Morning Bicycle Accident

Staff report

Minor injuries were reported in an accident at about 8 a.m. today near Diamond Drive and Sandia Street.

A bicyclist was riding south on Diamond Drive when a motorist heading northbound on Diamond Drive turned left on to Sandia Street and failed to yield the right of way to the bicyclist.

The Los Alamos Fire Department treated the bicyclist for minor injuries at the scene. The Bicyclist declined transport to Los Alamos Medical Center.
