LANB Treats Local Seniors to Holiday Feast
Los Alamos National Bank treated local seniors to its annual ‘Holiday Lunch’ Friday at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. LANB employees served the meals during two seatings. Senior Center staff prepared the lunch, which featured tender roast beef and all the trimmings. LANB’s Karen Easton presented gifts and prizes to the seniors gathered for the event. Santa Fe National Forest Fire Management has announced that a 20-acre hazardous fuels treatment is planned on the Forest in January and February.
Santa Fe Watershed, Espanola Ranger District:
- Approximately 20 acres of piles are to be treated at any point in time in the Santa Fe Watershed from Jan. 7 through the end of February, if conditions are favorable
- The pile burn location is approximately 6 miles East of the City of Santa Fe, 1 Mile East of McClure Reservoir
- The pile burn is expected to take place while snow is on the ground, which will help keep smoke levels low

About 25 people braved the balmy 12 degree weather at 7:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21 to view the sunrise over the Tyuonyi Pueblo Ruins at Bandelier National Monument for the winter solstice.
Rotary Student of the Month: Jessie Zhao

Jessie Zhao, a senior at Los Alamos High School (LAHS), was recently honored as Rotary Student of the Month for December.
Zhao is the daughter of Shaoping Chu and Xinxin Zhao and sister of William and Steven Zhao.

Pet of the Week: Shyloh the Black Shepherd Mix

Shyloh is a 2-year-old black shepherd mix and a wonderful pet. He is friendly with adults, loves kids, cats and dogs.
The reason he came to the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter is that his family moved away without him.
Like many dogs, Shyloh will need some time and company to feel wanted in a new home. A tall, secure fence is recommended if he must be left alone in a yard.
He is amazing at finding creative ways to get to K9 companions and human friends. We have some great ideas about securing your fence. Just ask!

NNSA Orders Security Enhancements at LANL
LANL News:
The National Nuclear Security Administration, a semi-autonomous agency of the U.S. Department of Energy, has directed Los Alamos National Laboratory to increase its security, effective immediately.
LANL is the only Laboratory in the DOE Complex under this increase in security. Spokesman Kevin Roark responded to an email request from the Los Alamos Daily Post this afternoon for additional information, saying simply that the Lab cannot elaborate as to what has spurred the order for heightened security.

Funeral arrangements for Speaker Ben Luján include a public visitation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 in the Rotunda of the New Mexico State Capitol.

Grants Man Arrested for Posting Threats on Internet
FBI News:
This morning the FBI arrested Paulo Nikko Peral, 20, of Grants, New Mexico, on a criminal complaint charging him with transmitting a threat to injure another in interstate commerce, in violation of 18 U.S.C. 875(c.)
Paulo’s arrest was announced by U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales and Carol K.O. Lee, Special Agent in Charge of the Albuquerque Division of the FBI.
Peral made his initial appearance in federal court this afternoon. He remains in federal custody pending a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing, which are scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Luján Amendment Passes to Study Broader National Labs Mission
