LAPSF News:

Another year and another semester has begun and the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation wants to help educators start the year off strong by opening its spring semester grant applications.

Any licensed LAPS teachers may apply before the Feb. 29 deadline. Many thanks to the wonderful individuals and organizations that continue to donate and contribute to more than $18,000 available for our educators.

Teachers may apply for the following grants:

  • Great Ideas Grants;
  • Professional Development Grants; and
  • Professional Book Group Grants.

Great Ideas Grants fund materials and resources that support an innovative idea a teacher would like to implement in their classroom. This grant allows teachers to expand core curriculum when funding may not be available to enrich the learning experience for students.

In the fall semester of 2019, LAPS Foundation approved six great ideas including materials for composting at Pinon Elementary, a 3-day team building event at LAMS for all students, and two escape room kits for Barranca Elementary.

Professional Development Grants make it possible for teachers to attend conferences, workshops, or seminars to enhance their own professional abilities to bring back in the classroom.

LAPS Foundation makes it a goal to seek out new opportunities for district educators to refine their teaching capabilities. For the fall of 2019, the Foundation sent teachers to the National Association for Gifted Children Conference, and a seminar addressing What’s New in Children Literature, along with many more.

Professional Book Group Grants seek to encourage educators to share collective thoughts and ideas through funding that provides educational and instructional books.

This allows educators to collaborate with the goal of implementing new or refined practices in their classrooms.

The deadline for submission for the spring semester is Feb. 29, 2020. All licensed LAPS teachers may apply online at lapsfoundation.com/educators/apply-for-a-grant/.
