Los Alamos Lacrosse Season Driving into State Playoffs
LAHS News:
The Los Alamos High School Lacrosse team plays its last regular season home game at 4:30 pm. this Friday at Overlook Park in White Rock (Dara Jones Field) against Bosque Prep.
The season has played out very well with a 6-3 record against its league opponents.
The team is currently tied with Bosque for 2nd place, which will be determined by Friday’s game. Quarter final games will be played next week. Los Alamos hopes to advance to the semi-finals May 9 and the championships Saturday, May 11, both to be held at Sandia Prep in Albuquerque.

DONALD DUNNING April 3, 1926–April 28, 2013
Donald Dunning passed away Sunday April 28, 2013 at the age of 87.
Don was born in Brookfield, Illinois on April 3, 1926. He grew up in Brookfield during the Depression with his mother and brother Richard. Even though they had no money, he had nothing but fond memories of that time.
Don enlisted in the Army Air Force in January 1944 and served until October 1945.
Don’s first professional job was with Argonne National Laboratory in 1949. While at Argonne, he attended the Illinois Technical Institute and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Metallurgical Read More
Relay for Life Issues Call for Artists

The 2013 Los Alamos Relay for Life is once again calling on all artists to help with a fundraising event to support the American Cancer Society.
Artists are being called upon to use their talent again this year to paint or decorate a birdhouse, which will be auctioned Aug. 23rd at the Relay for Life event at Ashley Pond.
Unpainted and unfinished birdhouses are available at Village Arts on DP Road or artists may create an original design.

The Los Alamos Police Department conducted its bi-annual DEA prescription drug take back initiative Saturday, April 27.
LAPD conducted two location sites for the first time this year, one at Los Alamos Medical Center and the second at the public library in White Rock.

Topper Girls and Boys Golf Teams Take Second

The Topper Girls Golf Team took 2nd place at the Santa Fe High School Invite Monday.
They posted their best team score of the spring and earned yet another team state qualifying leg.
Emma Haines led the girls team with an 85 and earned her 6th individual state qualifying leg. Bri Sanderson shot 95, Aislinn McDonal 101 and Jennifer Necker, 8th grader, shot 103. Mal Apgar also competed.
The boys team finished in 2nd place with Raul Roybal leading the boys’ charge with a 79. Raul got his 3rd state qualifying leg, which puts him in the state championship tournament.

Leanne Smith took first place in the 3.1-mile race at the 17th annual Friends of the Shelter Dog Jog Saturday, April 27 in White Rock.
The event is open to all participants with or without a dog and at any pace in both the 3.1 mile competitive run and 2 mile non-competitive fun walk/run.
