Leanne Smith took first place in the 3.1-mile race at the 17th annual Friends of the Shelter Dog Jog Saturday, April 27 in White Rock.
The event is open to all participants with or without a dog and at any pace in both the 3.1 mile competitive run and 2 mile non-competitive fun walk/run.
The annual Dog Jog is coordinated by the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club, Mountain Canine Corps, and the Atomic City Roadrunners as a fund raising benefit for the Friends of the Shelter.
The Los Alamos Animal Shelter, 246 East Road in Los Alamos is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekends.
All dogs are given a DHLPP shot when they come into the shelter and cats are checked for feline leukemia. Any animal that appears to have a medical problem is taken to a local vet for evaluation.
The Shelter provides care for animals for 10 days and vaccinations before making them available for adoption. Some pets are in foster homes, and information about these animals is available from the shelter.
