In a special meeting this evening, the Los Alamos School Board voted to appoint NancyAnn Holmes to fill the remainder of David Foster’s term, which ends in March.
Foster served in Position #3 and resigned in August to move to San Diego, Calif.

LANL Achieves 20-Year Low on Radioactive Air Emissions
LANL News:
- Annual dose rate from the Laboratory far below EPA limit
Los Alamos National Laboratory achieved its lowest radioactive air emissions rate in 20 years in 2013, according to annual air quality results released recently.
Each year, the Laboratory measures air emissions through a comprehensive system of 40 air monitoring stations located at the Laboratory and in neighboring communities that provide data about ambient air quality. The Laboratory monitors 80 minor sources and 29 major sources at the Laboratory, such as exhaust stacks from radiological and nuclear facilities.

LAPD Holds Drug Take Back Day Sept. 27

The Los Alamos Police Department will hold its bi-annual DEA Drug Take Back initiative, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 27 at two locations:
- Site 1: Los Alamos Medical Center Parking Lot, 3917 West Road in the specifically the parking lot along Trinity Drive; and
- Site 2: White Rock Visitors Center Parking Lot, 115 N.M. 4.

LANL: Learn About Counseling, Referral Services
LANL News:The public can learn about services offered by Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Employee Assistance Program at three, free informational sessions at the Bradbury Science Museum in downtown Los Alamos.

Espanola Fire District Plans Controlled Burn
FOREST SERVICE News:
SANTA FE–Fire managers from Santa Fe National Forest’s Espanola Ranger District have been working with the support of the City of Santa Fe, the Nature Conservancy, the Santa Fe Watershed Association, and New Mexico State Forestry to develop a long-term plan to improve forest health in the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed. Several fuel reduction treatments have been completed to date and another prescribed fire will be conducted as soon as weather conditions are favorable, perhaps as early as next week.
