Volunteers Needed For Statewide Debate Tournament In Los Alamos Feb. 26-18

The Los Alamos Middle and High School Speech and debate teams need the community’s help, and the only thing required is a willing ear.

Legislation Requiring Child-Proof Packaging For E-Cigarette Nicotine Products Passes House

SANTA FE – Legislation that would require child-proof packaging for all nicotine liquid products used in e-cigarettes passed the House floor Wednesday by a unanimous vote of 66-0. This bill will help protect New Mexico’s children from accidentally ingesting and overdosing on nicotine.

SANTA FE—The Regional Coalition of LANL Communities (Coalition) announced successful meetings last week in Washington, D.C.

Every Woman Lawmaker Signs Domestic Violence Bill

SANTA FE – Every female lawmaker in the New Mexico House of Representatives supported cracking down on domestic abuse as they recently signed Rep. Kelly Fajardo’s bill that allows police officers 24 hours to arrest a domestic violence offender without a warrant.

Council Approves Electric Rate Increase

Following a presentation by Utilities Manager Tim Glasco Tuesday evening in Council Chambers, the Los Alamos County Council approved an electric rate increase.

The vote was 4-2 with Councilor Susan O’Leary and Councilor James Chrobocinski voting against the measure. Councilor David Izraelevitz was absent. During Council discussion, O’Leary and Chrobocinski called for a more “phased in” rate hike to allow residents an opportunity to adjust to the increase over time.
