By JUDY PRONOToday is Equal Pay Day. It marks how far into the year a woman must work to earn as much as a man earned in the previous year.
The day is a troubling marker of how far we have to go before we close the gender pay gap. Women working full time, year round, in the US still earn an average of 78 cents for every dollar earned by men.

By REBECCA SHANKLANDI’m a bit puzzled about the sense of outrage expressed by people who’d like to keep the convenience of having “free” (Smith’s does pay for them) single-use (I know, lots of people re-use them, which is great) plastic bags.

Meadow Lane Construction Underway In White Rock

The contractor for the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities will begin phase 1 construction this week on Meadow Lane in White Rock.
A new underground primary electric line is being installed to improve reliability to the surrounding neighborhoods.
Beginning at the north end of the 600 block on Meadow Lane and extending to Grand Canyon Road, crews will trench along the east shoulder to install the new line. Two-way traffic on Meadow Lane will be maintained at all times.

Northern New Mexico College Regents Approve Tuition Increase And Lock For Upcoming Year
NNMC News:
Española – The Northern New Mexico College Board of Regents approved an 8.9 percent increase to tuition and general fees and introduced a tuition lock program for the 2015-16 academic year during its April 10 meeting.
The measure came as part of the Board’s efforts to address a $900,000 reduction in expenditures from the current fiscal year. Course and program specific fees were not impacted. Regents had not increased tuition since 2012.
