LACDC Extends Tuesdays At The Pond Aug. 18

The final Tuesdays at the Pond was scheduled for Aug. 11, featuring Marcos Cavalcante and Band at Ashley Pond Park.
 
However, just announced, Tuesdays at the Pond has extended the successful concert series schedule by one week to include The Silver Lines at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18.
 
The Silver Lines are an alternative rock band from Socorro featuring Los Alamos resident and guitarist Matt Broomfield, drummer Nick Davis and bassist Greg Holmes. The three met in school at Socorro and are delighted to be playing in Los Alamos

Los Alamos Swimmer Sarah Lott Sets Bar High

SPORTS News:

Sarah Lott, a senior this fall at Los Alamos High School, had an exciting summer, qualifying for her first USA Swimming Junior National competition when she swam at the American Long Course Finals meet in Dallas a few weeks ago.

Lott qualified with a 58.36 in her 100-meter freestyle, and also got the 200-meter freestyle bonus cut time with a 2:06.03. Four other Charger Aquatics teammates also qualified for Junior Nationals at this meet along with Anthony Kim, a senior Albuquerque Academy, who earned a spot at the 2016 Olympic Trials in both the 100- Read More

This alternative rock band is touring from Houston through New Mexico to California. 
 
They recently played the Rock The Desert Festival in Midland, Texas where Los Alamos concert organizer, Phil Jacobson, was able to meet the band and see them play some great music.

We lived in Iwakuni, Japan from 1956 to 1958. I was a meteorologist in the Navy for Fleet Air Wing Six.

Iwakuni was about as far from Hiroshima as Los Alamos is from Santa Fe – we traveled there often. We also visited Nagasaki.

Working for me was a Japanese PhD meteorologist. He plotted weather observations from China and Russia that we received in Morse code. He was vastly over qualified but it was the best paying job available.

Rotary STARS ‘Fiesta Los Alamos’ Raises $12,000

Rotarian and STARS President Laura Loy shared some good news with the Rotary Club of Los Alamos during the club’s regular meeting Tuesday at the golf course. The July 25 Fiesta Los Alamos fundraiser at Fuller Lodge, raised more than $12,000 to help provide lodging to parents whose children are in the hospital in Juarez, Mexico. Due to poverty, the children’s parents cannot afford lodging. Following an inquiry from a reader about the meaning behind this banner hanging at Calvary Chapel, 580 North Mesa Road, the Los Alamos Daily Post spoke with Senior Pastor Pat Kestell.
