Los Alamos School Board Thanks LAPSF

LAPS News:

The Los Alamos School Board expressed its appreciation to the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation with the following statements:

  • The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation accelerates improvements in public education through the judicious use of private resources; and
  • The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation believes that (a) an excellent education is every child’s right, (b) accountability in public education is essential, and (c) parental involvement in public education determines success.

The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation highlights from the last seven years include:

  • Classroom makeover
  • FIRST Robotics
  • Foreign language lab
  • Great ideas grants
  • Professional licensure dossier support
  • Professional development grants
  • Scholarships for students and teachers

School Year 2014 — $106,075

  • New professional book groups and professional development grants K-12
  • New gym pads at LAMS
  • Science classroom makeover at LAHS

School Year 2013 — $76,806

  • Rynd Outdoor Classrooms
  • Art Classroom Makeover at LAMS
  • Leadership Development for Principals

School Year 2012 — $69,952

  • Great Ideas Grants impacting 2,420 students over one school year
  • Professional development for National Common Core Standards, K-3.

School Year 2011 — $67,816

  • Kindles Instead of Books for 50 AP Literature students at Los Alamos High School
  • Expansion of Teach Like a Champion professional development initiative

School Year 2010 — $50,300

  • Health classroom makeover at Los Alamos Middle School
  • Helped 13 teachers advance their professional licensure

School Year 2009 — $92,800

  • Science classroom and laboratory makeover at LAHS
  • Aided 16 students by providing college scholarships

THEREFORE, it is resolved that the School Board formally recognizes and thanks the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation, members of the LAPS Foundation Board of Directors, Executive Director Joanna Gillespie, and staff from the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation for serving as successful partners in striving to meet our vision, mission, and goals.
