ESPAÑOLA — The Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation has promoted Tony Fox to Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Scholarships and Mihaela Popa-Simil to Vice President of Finance and Operations.

Fox joined the LANL Foundation in 2001 as the scholarship program officer, and under his leadership, the expanding initiative has awarded over $5 million to more than 1,000 students in Northern New Mexico. Former LAMS Teacher Killed In Texas

POLICE News:

A former Los Alamos Middle School science teacher and her husband were murdered Sunday in Denton, Texas and police have charged their 40-year-old son.

Linda Scott taught at LAMS in the 1990s. She retired around 2000 and moved with her husband Marion Scott to Texas.

According to police, the couple’s son Stephen Scott called 911 at 2:36 p.m., Sunday. He was breathing heavily, crying and admitted that he stabbed his parents.

Paul Andrus has been appointed director of the Los Alamos County Community Development Department.

He has served in an interim capacity in that position since Oct. 9 when Anne Laurent moved with her family to Utah. As with all director level appointments, County Council must approve the selection and is expected to render its decision at the Jan. 26 council meeting.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall announced that 36 New Mexico students have received his nomination to attend a United States service academy, including two Los Alamos students, Isaac Dunwoody and Seung Heon (Victor) Kim and three others from Northern New Mexico.
 
A congressional, vice-presidential, or service-connected nomination is required for admission to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

New Mexico Driver’s Licenses Rejected At Fort Bliss

SANTA FE – Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas announced Wednesday it will join the list of federal facilities that no longer accept New Mexico driver’s licenses.

Fort Bliss stated it took the action because driver’s licenses from New Mexico as well as Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota and Washington state do not comply with the federal ID act.

Former Corrections Officer Sentenced To Federal Prison For Scheme To Smuggle Drugs Into Otero County Prison

ALBUQUERQUE  Luis Delgadillo, 39, of El Paso, Texas, was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Las Cruces to 40 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for his participation in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and heroin into the Otero County Prison Facility (OCPF) in Chaparral.
