Udall Nominates Two Los Alamos Students To United States Service Academies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall announced that 36 New Mexico students have received his nomination to attend a United States service academy, including two Los Alamos students, Isaac Dunwoody and Seung Heon (Victor) Kim and three others from Northern New Mexico.
A congressional, vice-presidential, or service-connected nomination is required for admission to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Students receiving Udall’s nomination participated in a competitive application process, which included an interview with the senator’s Military Academy Review Board, made up of active duty service members, veterans and community leaders.
“The United States service academies provide a top-notch education and unparalleled opportunities for students to succeed in military and civilian life, and it’s my privilege to nominate outstanding New Mexico students to the academies each year,” Udall said. “I’m very grateful to all of the volunteers who served on my Military Academy Review Board. The group of students they helped me select to receive a nomination is diverse and talented and represents schools across New Mexico. I’m proud that these exceptional and motivated young people want to serve our country. I wish them luck as they move to the next phase of the admissions process, and I’m confident that they will represent New Mexico well.”
Nominated students will compete for admission to their service academy over the coming months. Those admitted will join the class of 2020.
