‘The Compassionate Friends’ Offers Grief Support After Death of a Child

The Compassionate Friends Chapter of Los Alamos County meets 7-8:30 p.m., the fourth Tuesday of the month in the new YMCA Annex in Central Park Square at Nectar and 15th Street in Los Alamos (Suite 140 on the northeast side of Central Park Square.)
The August meeting is Aug. 27. The organization offers grief support after the death of a child.

The Taos National Society of Watercolorists is staging a group exhibition at the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos. The exhibition will be on display from Aug. 30-Sept. 29.
The Opening Reception will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30 and will feature a “meet and greet” with the 22 artist members of the National Society of Watercolorists. Admission is free for the reception and there will be refreshments served.

This week’s Pace Race on Aug. 20 turned into a guessing game due to the heavy rain, thunder and lightning.
Most of the markings on the three mile run through Rendia Canyon and Bayo Canyon were washed away, so the run became partly a mystery run. In spite of that, some pace race guesses were really good. On the mystery run, Linda Vance was 15 seconds off her prediction, Karen Thorn was 30 seconds off and Ted Romero was 33 seconds off.

IRS Website Explains Health Care Law Tax Provisions

PHOENIX─The IRS has launched a new Affordable Care Act Tax Provisions website at IRS.gov/aca to educate individuals and businesses on how the health care law may affect them.
The new home page has three sections, which explain the tax benefits and responsibilities for individuals and families, employers, and other organizations, with links and information for each group. The site provides information about tax provisions that are in effect now and those that will go into effect in 2014 and beyond.
