projectY cowork Los Alamos has announced that it has partnered with All Good Work (AGW) to create a residency program for social impact organizations. 

The program offers the support of the All Good Work community and a portion of the projectY workspace to deserving organizations. Applications for an AGW residency at projectY cowork are open until Monday, July 25, after which time All Good Work narrows down applicants and one member will receive full-time access to the space  Aug. 1 to Feb. 1.

Bear Concerns Prompt LANL To Close Trails

Just before noon today, Los Alamos National Laboratory warned employees to watch out for bears and keep off the outdoor trails inside the lab perimeter until notified otherwise. The following memo to all employees from the Communications Office was obtained by the Los Alamos Daily Post:

Police Offer Tag-Your-Tot Program At Overlook July 4

LAPD News:

At Monday’s Fourth of July Fireworks event at Overlook Park, the Los Alamos Police Department is again conducting its Tag-Your-Tot program.

Tag-Your-Tot is a program used at the New Mexico State Fair and Balloon Fiesta every year by law enforcement. Tag-Your-Tot helps reunite lost children with their parents much faster than searching on foot.

Parents who bring their tots to the LAPD information booth and complete a form with their names and cell phone number will receive a bracelet for thier tot with an identification number on it so if that child gets lost while at Overlook Read More

Council Approves 3 Percent Raise For County Officials

The Los Alamos County Council met in closed sessions recently regarding the personnel evaluations of the County’s contract employees: Manager Harry Burgess, County Attorney Rebecca Ehler and Department of Public Utilities Manager Tim Glasco.
 
At Tuesday’s meeting in Council Chambers, the Council voted unanimously to approve a 3 percent salary increase for each of these contract employees. The increase brings the County manager’s annual salary to $197,640; the County attorney’s salary to $161,136

Udall Works To Include Technology Transfer Provisions In Premiere Science And Innovation Bill To Boost R&D

WASHINGTON, D.C.  This week, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall joined the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee in finalizing a major science and innovation bill and welcomed the inclusion of provisions that he pushed for to boost technology transfer initiatives. Udall is a champion for tech transfer to jumpstart business and job creation in New Mexico and elsewhere.
 
The latest measures were included in the American Innovation and Competitiveness Act (an update of the America COMPETES Act), which was finalized by the Commerce Committee on Thursday.

Letter To The Editor: Dismayed That Individuals Are Vandalizing Campaign Posters In Los Alamos

I am dismayed to find that in Los Alamos there are people vandalizing campaign posters.

We mounted two Hillary Clinton posters in our yard. The next morning both were torn down, with damage sufficient that it was unlikely to have been caused by the wind. We remounted them using sturdy wood pieces.

Again the one nearest the road was knocked down and the wood broken.

Exercising our democracy through supporting candidates of our choice is one of the most fundamental rights of our republic. The fact that some misguided individuals choose to interfere with this right is appalling. Read More

Volunteers Needed: YMCA 5K Fun Run & Walk July 4

The Family YMCA in Los Alamos needs volunteers to help with its annual Firecracker 5K Fun Run this Monday, July 4.

Anyone interested in helping with traffic control, handing out t-shirts, or helping with race timing, please volunteer at The Family YMCA at 1450 Iris St. in Los Alamos.

Positions and time needs:

  • 5K Race begins at 8 a.m., volunteers per position needed at the following times:
  • 6 a.m. – Event set-up;
  • 6:30-7:45 a.m. – Registration sign up;

ALONZO ANGEL L. GALLEGOS June 20, 2016

Alonzo Angel L. Gallegos (Indio), age 60, a resident of Espanola, formally of California, passed away on June 20, 2016 unexpectedly.

Mr. Gallegos was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph M Gallegos Sr, Betty L. Gallegos; brothers Ronald and Lawrence Gallegos; sister, Gloria Gallegos; sister in-law Sofie C Hayes; niece Nancy Y. Castro; brother in-law Ruben Salazar, Gilbert S.Venegas.

Alonzo enjoyed fishing, hunting, and listening to music. He worked as an auto mechanic and enjoyed working at his father’s ranch in Canjilon.

WASHINGTON, D.C.  U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and 127 Members of Congress filed an amicus brief in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of Christiansen v. Omnicom Group, Inc., arguing that workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity is already prohibited under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 since these types of discrimination are inherently linked to sex discrimination.
