ALBUQUERQUE  The New Mexico Activities Association is proud to announce the first of a three-part series of Officials Appreciation Weeks to honor and recognize the men and women who serve as interscholastic sports officials in the state of New Mexico.

County Linemen Rescue Cat Stranded 4 Days In Tree

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities linemen Randy and Wayne responded today to the scene of a cat stranded without food or water for four days some 40 feet up in a tall ponderosa tree, near 41st Street and Sycamore.

The linemen traveled in the bucket of their truck up the 40 feet to rescue the weakened cat. Their mission was accomplished in about 10 minutes, according to a neighbor.

DOE/NNSA Issues RFP For LANL Management & Operating Contract

DOE/NNSA News:

DOE/NNSA issued today the solicitation/Request for Proposal (RFP) for a full and open competition for the management and operating (M&O) contract for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

In May 2016, NNSA extended the period of performance of the LANL M&O contractor, Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS), through Sept. 30, 2018. The pursuit of a full-and-open competition will provide the Department the best opportunity for improving the terms and conditions of the contract to incentivize mission performance and cost savings for the taxpayer.

Bryce Avenue Presbyterian Church is hosting a free event on Halloween — “Tack-and-Treat” — 4:30-6:30 p.m., Oct. 3.

Trick-or-Treating children (and parents, too) can come by the church parking lot at 333 Brice Ave., in White Rock and “nail” Martin Luther’s 95 Discussion Points to the “church” door.

First Judicial District Judge Francis J. Mathew has given the parties in a lawsuit filed by Carrie Adair against Los Alamos Medical Center and Barbara Van Eeckhout, M.D. until January to engage in a settlement conference and report back to the Court.

What would we do without United Way of Northern New Mexico? The short answer is that many resources in the area would cease to exist and many people who need support would receive no help.

Los Alamos Family Council has received annual United Way funding since we opened in 1963—one of the original agencies to get community funding. We and many other small, local non-profits would be closed without United Way.

Tony M. Borrego, 86, a resident of White Rock, passed away in Los Alamos on Sunday, October 22, 2017 with his family by his side.

He was born on January 25, 1931 in Española to Luis and Erinea Garcia Borrego. He was raised in the Española Valley and attended and graduated from Española High School Hornets being Class Valedictorian in 1950. Davey Trees To Audit DPU Pole Attachments

Beginning next week, Davey Tree Service Inc, under contract with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, will audit all utility pole attachments and identify potential powerline hazards in the Los Alamos townsite and White Rock area. This includes auditing attachments from telecom and cable utility companies.
