SANTA FE  Education Secretary-Designate Christopher Ruszkowski has announced Ivonne Orozco as the 2018 New Mexico Teacher of the Year.
 
Orozco is a Spanish teacher in grades 8-12 at the Public Academy for the Performing Arts in Albuquerque. Ruszkowski joined students, staff and Orozco’s family to surprise her with the award.

Driving 58 MPH In 25 MPH Zone Leads To DUI Arrest

Eddie Padilla, 60, of Los Alamos was arrested Oct. 12 and charged with driving under the influence after being stopped for allegedly driving at 58 miles an hour in a posted 25 miles per hour zone on Sandia Street.

An incident report filed by Los Alamos Police Cpl. Jemuel Montoya states that Padilla’s truck did not slow down after Padilla passed him but continued at a high rate of speed. When Padilla stopped, he quickly exited his vehicle and began to approach Montoya’s patrol car but Montoya directed him to get back into the truck.

FBI: Isleta Pueblo Man Sentenced To Seven Years

ALBUQUERQUE  Juan Larry Lujan, 63, a member and resident of Isleta Pueblo, was sentenced Oct. 18 in Federal Court in Santa Fe, to 84 months in prison for his conviction on an abusive sexual contact charge. 
 
Lujan will be on supervised release for five years after completing his prison sentence and also will be required to register as a sex offender.
 
Lujan was arrested in February 2016, on an indictment charging with sexually abusing a child under the age of 12 on the Pueblo of Isleta in Valencia County.

PHOENIX  The Internal Revenue Service today announced cost‑of‑living adjustments affecting dollar limitations for pension plans and other retirement-related items for tax year 2018.  The IRS today issued technical guidance detailing these items in Notice 2017-64.

Adrian Trujillo Back In Jail On Probation Violation

A 29-year-old Hernandez man is back in jail after allegedly violating the terms of his probation under two First Judicial Court cases after he allegedly made abusive contact with a victim.

Adrian Joshua Trujillo went to the victim’s place of work Sept. 16 in Pojoaque where he allegedly made contact with her and after she told him he needed to work on his anger management issues, he allegedly struck her left eye with his closed fist.
