Rotary Club Concert to Feature Beene Memorial Music Competition Winners June 17 at Fuller Lodge

Fuller Lodge will resonate with music on June 17 when the Los Alamos Rotary Club presents a Fathers’ Day concert performed by 12 award winners of the annual Deborah Beene Memorial Music Competitions.
The concert will begin at 2:30 p.m. and admission is free.
These popular annual concerts showcase the superb musical talents developed by young Los Alamos musicians, a number of whom pursue professional careers in music.

Portable Building Moves Smoothly Through Town

Leadership Los Alamos Takes Working Hiatus

The Leadership Los Alamos organization is taking the year off to update its program.
Leadership Los Alamos has operated for more than 10 years and things have changed, Chair-elect Mike Wismer said. The community, the economy has evolved, he said, and Leadership Los Alamos is looking at possibly retooling.

The Scouts try their skill on the rope course under the watchful eye of adult volunteers. There were 137 Cub Scouts at the camp Wednesday. The camp runs through today and is an annual event held for about the last 25 years. The Kiwanis Club presented a scholarship to Los Alamos High School graduate Jin Park Tuesday. Park will attend Stanford University to pursue a degree in economics and computer science. He is joined by his mother Monica Park and Kiwanis Club President Kristy Keane. The Kiwanis Club recognizes graduating seniors with financial support for their commitment to the community. Transit of Venus Viewing Options for Tuesday
From 4 to sunset, Tuesday June 5, Los Alamos will be treated to a rare “transit of Venus” when the planet comes so precisely between the sun and the earth that its image can be seen crossing the solar disk.
Venus is small enough that a telescope (equipped with a special filter to reduce brightness) will be needed.
PEEC has such a telescope and will be showing the transit to anyone interested.
A transit of Venus happens only four times every 243 years. However,, the spacing between each occurrence is very uneven.
