DOE Launches National Science Bowl Lithium-Ion Battery-Powered Model Car Race

 
Middle School Regional Champions From Around the Country to Compete
 
Beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 44 middle school teams from across the nation will race against one another in the Lithium-Ion Battery-Powered Model Car Challenge as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl Competition.
 
The middle school teams designed and built their model cars from everyday household materials and brought them to D.C. to compete.
 
The teams will be judged on two criteria – time trials and car design.

Montoya is Top Predictor in North Mesa Pace Race

Theresa Montoya was the top predictor with a 15 second differential in this past Tuesday night’s pace race held out on North Mesa on the trail by Brewer Arena next to the horse stables. Other top predictors included Ted Romero at 17 seconds off, Tom Sandford coming in at 20 seconds from his stated time, and Bob Edgar having a 32 second difference.
 
Roy Cope was the fastest participant on the 1 mile course with a time of 11:44.  The top 1 mile female runner was Georgia Pedicini at 14:12.

Los Alamos Community Winds Collaborates with Los Niños de Santa Fe

Los Alamos Community Winds will present “Cinco de Mayo Celebrating a Century of the Music and Dance of Mexico and New Mexico,” at 7 p.m., Saturday May 5, at Crossroads Bible Church.

Los Nños de Santa Fe will perform traditional Mexican dances, directed and choreographed by Antonina Valdez Romp, on three pieces (Danzón no. 2 by Arturo Marquez, Huapango by José Pablo Moncayo, and La Bamba de Vera Cruz by Terig Tucci).

YMCA Scholarships Fund Camp, Health – Support Drive Targets $23,000

FAMILY YMCA News

In 2011, three people a week requested financial assistance at The Family YMCA so their children could participate in after school, or camp, or so they could participate in healthy programs.

In the end, 148 people were awarded more than $75,000 in assistance.

The Y is running its annual Strong Kids Campaign, a fundraising drive to support these scholarships.
