Join poet Lisa Gill for readings from her book Red as a Lotus: Letters to a Dead Trappist, interspersed with portions of the film, Compassion Rising, an outgrowth of the 1968 meeting between the Dalai Lama and Thomas Merton.
The event, part of the programming series for the exhibits Illuminating the Word: The Saint John’s Bible and Contemplative Landscape, is 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, in the History Museum Auditorium (located at 113 Lincoln Ave., in Santa Fe. Free with admission; Sundays free to New Mexico residents.

Art Show Opening at Los Alamos Co-op Market

The Los Alamos Cooperative Market will host the opening of a photography exhibition from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17.
The show, dubbed “Camino de Paz y Cooperación,” is a collaborative effort between the Co-op and local photographer Minesh Bacrania and depicts the close connection between Camino de Paz, the Montessori-based school and farm located in Santa Cruz, N.M. and the Los Alamos Co-op.

The Los Alamos Community Winds will open their concert season with “A World of Music” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at White Rock Baptist Church.
“This is a typical Winds concert in that we are performing a variety of music,” Winds Artistic Director Ted Vives said. “We started looking at people’s suggestions for music and I saw that there was a wide variety of locations around the world represented. The theme grew out of that realization.”

Pasión de Tango will showcase Santa Fe tango performers and instructors Alp Findikoglu and Paula Couselo-Findikoglu and the Bailo Tango Dance Group as well as the music of the Alejandro Ziegler Quartet from Argentina.

The Olions have decades of history at Los Alamos High. This fall the thespian club is presenting a play, Musical Comedy Murders of 1940’s and it is happening this coming weekend.
Tickets are $9 each and the show will be presented at 8 p.m. Oct. 19, 20, 26 and 27 with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.

ESPAÑOLA – Teens will be able to record their lyrics and music this fall thanks to support from three funders.
The grants are enabling the conversion of an office into a recording studio and will purchase equipment including an electric drum board, keyboard beat mixer, microphones and other recording equipment.
The Presbytery of Santa Fe, in support of a recommendation from their Mission in the North Committee awarded $5,000 toward the audio engineering program and in support of the center’s cultural creative arts classes.

From Oct. 8-26, the display case at Mesa Public Library will feature embroidered artwork stitched by members of the Pajarito Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America.
The EGA is a national educational organization dedicated to promoting and preserving needle arts. You can see a number of different types of needlework in the display.
The local chapter meets the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in Gibson Fellowship Hall of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos.
