Softball Fields May Receive Improvements

The softball fields at Overlook Park in White Rock have been a long-time staple at the park.

“The main part of it is well over 20 years old,” Los Alamos County Park Superintendent Jeff Humpton said. “In all that time there hasn’t been any major improvements save for removing and replacing the soil in the infield and replacing the fencing at the backstop and dugout.”

Now that the Rec Bond is facing organized opposition (link) from people with money, it is more important than ever for those of us who want additional recreation venues in Los Alamos to vote to support the Rec Bond in the upcoming election.

People have wondered why Los Alamos has a declining population and what to do about it, and I suggest that having sufficient recreational facilities is an important way to stop this decline.

SFNF 2017 Firewood Permits Now Available

SANTA FE ― Firewood permits for dead and down timber are now available for purchase at most Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) offices. The exception is the Española Ranger District, which expects to start selling its firewood permits May 15.
 
Dead and down permits are valid (one district per permit) on the entire SFNF except for designated wilderness areas.
 
The nonrefundable permits are for personal use only and may be purchased for $20 for five cords with a maximum of 10 cords per household per year. Customers may purchase permits by check, credit/debit

I attended almost all of the public meetings that addressed the projects whose funding is a part of the $20 million bond issue now up for a vote.
