Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) presents The Brave New Brass free recital noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Fuller Lodge.
Community members are invited to bring their lunch and hear this brass quintet perform works from Gustov Holst, Diego Ortiz and Astor Piazoll. The Brave New Brass is comprised of Elizabeth Hunke, Deniece Korzekwa, Dave Korzekwa, Mandy Marksteiner and Bruce Warren.

By CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1” is the third installment in the Hunger Games trilogy – at least it is a trilogy in the book version. Did the third novel have enough in it to make into two movies? Surprisingly, yes it did; at 123 minutes in length, this one kept our interest and sustained its intensity.
The focus in Part 1 is on Katniss Everdeen’s struggle to trust the rebel faction and become its’ spokesperson—the Mockingjay. The bulk of the story takes place in District 13, totally underground, a district the public had been told no longer existed. Its’

The community-wide grand opening for Unquarked The Wine Bar in downtown Los Alamos is set for noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20. The event includes live music 5-8 p.m., and appetizers created by local restaurants.

Absorbed in it, one doesn’t notice that the film runs as long as two hours and 49 minutes.
