White Rock Man Charged in Domestic Dispute
Los Alamos Police have charged Andrew Ortega with aggravated assault and battery after responding to a call of a possible domestic dispute at a residence in White Rock this morning.
Hand-cuffed and placed in the back of a police patrol car, Ortega, 40, began to thrash about while being transported from White Rock to the Los Alamos Detention Center.
“He was kicking the doors and seats and banging his head against the interior of the police car,” Capt. Randy Foster said. “Because of his behavior, we requested Los Alamos Fire Department medical personnel check him for injuries.” Read More

PEEC Offers Hike to Veronica Springs with Dorothy Hoard
PEEC News:
On Saturday, July 7, Dorothy Hoard will lead a Natural Wonders of Los Alamos hike to Veronica Springs to see the wild Veronica that blooms in the seeping spring water.
The hike is free and open to the public. Participants can meet at 9 a.m., at PEEC or at at 9:30 a.m., the trailhead at American Springs Road (Forest Road 181.)

Bug Zoo Comes to Summer Family Evenings at PEEC

The Harrell House of Natural Oddities will be bringing some of the world’s most unusual creatures to PEEC at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday July 10, as part of PEEC’s Summer Family Evenings series.
The program is free for PEEC members, and $10 per family for non-members.
The Harrell House is a family-run business based in Santa Fe, and dedicated to educating the public about arthropods.

Domestic Dispute Leads to Possible Self-injury

Police responded to a possible domestic dispute around 10:45 a.m. today in White Rock.
A man was transported to the Los Alamos Detention Center.
Capt. Randy Foster said the man became animated in the police car on the way to the jail, thrashing his head against the interior of the vehicle.
Upon arrival at the jail, police called Los Alamos Fire Department EMT personnel as a pecaution to check out the man’s potential injuries.

Driving down N.M. 84, we watched Los Alamos, Espanola and even the scatterings of roadside businesses in Abiquiu just slip past the windows.
Soon, there was nothing filling the windows but a gray strip of asphalt and huge, scenic landscapes.
This is when the adventure began.

Downtown Without Power Wednesday Night
DPU News:
Businesses and some residences in the Los Alamos downtown area lost power for more than three hours Wednesday night.
The outage, bounded by 20th Street to East Road and Central Avenue to Trinity Drive, was caused when a cable termination failed, according to Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities officials.
While electric lineman began receiving reports of the outage at midnight, other indicators suggest that the outage began just after 11 p.m. July 4.
Crews were dispatched, isolated the fault and repaired the cable termination and by 2:30 a.m., had restored power.

A large fire broke out this morning in the chapel of the New Beginnings Fellowship Church, 112 East Road.
One firefighter was transported to Los Alamos Medical Center after a 5-inch coupling broke loose and injured his ankle as he battled the blaze.
