Brief Power Outage in White Rock Identified
DPU News:
Half of White Rock customers serviced by the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities lost electricity at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The DPU explained that a contractor replacing utility poles in the area inadvertently caused the outage, which was restored 15 minutes later.
A jumper burned while the primary riser was being attached to the new pole structure.
Work procedures require that overhead protective devices be placed on non-reclosing mode when work is being conducted on live electric lines.
This is to avoid further damage to the electric system and for worker safety.

I would like to thank everyone in Los Alamos who took the time to meet with me over the past few weeks. I truly enjoyed getting to know my neighbors on the hill, and will continue to work with you to address issues of mutual concern as a Rio Arriba County Commissioner.

Call for Exhibitors for White Rock’s Art & Artisans Market
The Los Alamos Creative District is now accepting applications for exhibitors/ vendors from throughout the area to display and sell their work at the White Rock Art and Artisans Market.
The market will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday from June 17 until Oct. 21 and is free to the public.
The location will be an outdoor space at the Hive at 134, N.M. 4 in White Rock where about 40 tents and tables can be accommodated.
The Hive is close by the parking and shuttle stop for the Bandelier National Monument shuttle which begins in June – all visitors going to Bandelier will be required to use this shuttle. Read More

On Father’s Day, Sunday June 17, PEEC will be offering a free Birdscape Tour of White Rock.
This is a chance to visit four homes that have optimized their yards for attracting birds.
The yards will be open for visitors 1-5 p.m. This is a self-guided tour, and no registration is required.
The four yards on display this year will be at the Dunns, 107 Sierra Vista Dr.; the Walkers, 305 Donna Ave.; the Foxes, 238 Rio Bravo Dr.; and the Arendts, at 608 La Bajada.

Kyle Wheeler served on the Charter Review Committee and is here in Council Chambers this evening along with John Hopkins who served as CRC chair to present recommendations on items in the Charter. Council Votes For No Change to Sheriff’s Office
After listening to comments and recommendations from members of the Charter Review Committee, which studied the issue at length, Councilors voted 5-2 to retain present language in the Charter stating that the duties of the Los Alamos Sheriff do not include law enforcement. During the discussion period, Councilor Fran Berting suggested doing away with the Office altogether since Los Alamos County does not have unincorporated land in which a sheriff’s department normally operates. The date was Dec. 30, 1968. Roger Waterman was driving his good friend, Mike Benziger, down the main hill road, heading to Benziger’s home in Santa Fe, after both had been playing basketball in Los Alamos.
Waterman was driving his large and powerful 1959 Pontiac Starchief. He had driven the Starchief 25 times on cross-county trips to and from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., where he was a senior classman.
