Boy Scout Museum Society Meets Feb. 26
LABSMS News:
There will be a meeting of the Los Alamos Boy Scout Museum Society at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, 1967 18th St.
The agenda has a short report on the Raton Scout Museum and discussion and appointment of planning, membership and finance committees.
All Cub Masters, Scoutmasters and Explorer Advisors are urged to attend, as well as committee members and all interested citizens.

Udall to Address New Mexico Legislature
STATE News:
ALBUQUERQUE – Sen. Tom Udall will address the New Mexico Legislature at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, and also make visits to Sandia National Labs and New Mexico State University.

Saturday, Feb. 16, the Los Alamos High School Wrestling Team took the 2-4A District title for the second straight year.
LAHS won by more than 30 points over second place Capital. Bob Geyer was honored as District Coach of the Year.
As a reward for their efforts at District, all LAHS Varsity wrestlers qualified for State.
Los Alamos was led by five wins in the following weight classes:
- Chandler Lauritzen, first, win by pinfall
- Lane Saunders, first, win 4-1

New draft land use maps have been created by the Community Economic Development Department of Los Alamos County and were presented to the public Wednesday Feb. 13.

Los Alamos Police Chief to Repair Health Issue
LAPD News:
Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy wanted to let the community know that he will be away from his office for about four to six weeks.
He will undergo surgery in Albuquerque Tuesday to repair damage to a heart valve caused from an infection for which he was treated several weeks ago.
“Our Emergency Management Coordinator Phil Taylor will be acting chief in my absence,” Torpy said. “I look forward to getting this issue taken care of and returning to work as soon as I’ve recovered.

By Pete SheeheyIt became clear in December 2012 that our net county tax revenues for fiscal year (FY) 2013 would be about $9 million less than initially projected.
We can make up half of that shortfall by economizing on county operations. The County has maintained reserves of 25 percent of yearly revenues, about $15 million, to deal with such problems.
So why not go ahead with our original spending plans, and just dip into reserves for the other half of the shortage? The answer is that this is potentially not a single-year budget problem.
