Los Alamos Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Nereson Family are offering an opportunity to honor Jean Nereson, an elementary school teacher for 50 years in Los Alamos County Public Schools and active AAUW member.
Nereson was respected and loved by her students and she dedicated her 50 plus year career to their education and well-being. Jazz pianist Bert Dalton will perform at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at Zia Realty Group’s one year anniversary celebration.
Dalton has been living and performing in Santa Fe for 20 years. He has led a number of groups such as the Chicago Jazz Exchange, Yoboso, the Bert Dalton Trio, the Dalton Brothers Trio, and most recently, the Brazil Project.

Travel to Area Known for Cretaceous Age Shark Teeth

It’s hard to imagine New Mexico was once under the sea, but during the Cretaceous Period, between 145.5 and 65.5 million years ago, much of the state was.
Because of this, remains of sharks’ teeth can be found at a site aptly named Shark’s Tooth Ridge near Cabezon, N.M.
Local Geologist Patrick Rowe will lead a Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) trip to the site Saturday, Sept. 28. The group will meet at PEEC just before 8 a.m. to carpool to the site. Those who live in Santa Fe or Albuquerque can alternatively meet the group at 9:30 a.m. in
Library Celebrates Literary Locals

Since 2004, Mesa Public Library (MPL) has hosted the acclaimed Authors Speak Series that has featured noteworthy New Mexico authors across genres.
In May, the library kicked off a new series with Los Alamos’ own noteworthy authors. The quarterly series is called Literary Locals. The second event in the series will take place 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 in the Upstairs Rotunda at Mesa Public Library.
September was named the official Los Alamos Arts and Culture Month by County Council proclamation. In honor of this, Mesa Public Library will celebrate six local authors across genres:

Search and Rescue Find Body of Token Adams

Search and Rescue personnel this morning found the body of the firefighter who went missing Aug. 30 while scouting reports of smoke in the Jemez.
Officials said today that Token Adams, 41, apparently crashed his ATV atop a mesa in a remote area.

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) English Department will host “Composition Cinema I: A Film and Lecture Series,” beginning Sept. 12 and running through Nov. 14.
The five films in the series were selected for their relevance to composition and comparative literature courses being taught at UNM-LA.
