LAPS: Mental Health Design Team Community Presentations Feb. 1 & Feb. 3

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools’ Mental Health Design Team will be hosting two community presentations to engage the community in dialog around the Healthy School and Community Initiative.

The presentations will include an overview of the team’s work in the Fall of 2015 and short and long term recommendations for a path forward. The presentations and recommendations are intended to engage the schools and community in active collaboration around the issues of mental health and the impact on students and the community.

Topper Boys Fall To Espanola 80–70

Perhaps fired up by the talented National Anthem sung by Freshman Mattie Ruminer, the Topper boys’ basketball team came out of the chute on fire Tuesday night. They led the Espanola Sundevils 20-12 after the first quarter. However, the Sundevils outscored the Toppers by 20 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to take a commanding 57-45 lead into the 4th quarter. The Toppers never gave up and closed to within 10 in the 4th quarter before falling 80 to 70.

Legislation To Give Judges Full Picture Of Criminal Histories Passes House

SANTA FE  A bill that will give judges access to the full criminal histories of violent offenders passed the House Regulatory and Public Affairs Committee by a 7-0 vote.
 
House Bill 72, also called Jaydon’s Law, is sponsored by Reps. Nate Gentry and Paul Pacheco.
 
“Currently, judges don’t have access to a complete view a criminal defendants violent criminal history,” Gentry said. “This bill will give them the information they need to make fully informed sentencing and pre-trial decisions.”

Bipartisan Legislation To Allow Local Governments To Implement Curfews Passes First Committee

SANTA FE  Yesterday bipartisan legislation that would authorize local governments to impose curfews on minors under the age of 16 from midnight to 5 a.m. passed the House Regulatory and Public Affairs Committee by a 4-3 vote.
 
The bill, HB 29, is sponsored by Republican Rep. Nate Gentry and Democrat Rep. Carl Trujillo.

Outfitters, Guides Must Submit Proposals For Permits On Santa Fe National Forest By Feb. 15

SFNF News:
 
SANTA FE  Commercial guides and outfitters seeking 2016 special use permits to operate on Santa Fe National Forest lands must submit proposals no later than Feb. 15. 
 
Proposals received after that date will not be accepted for this calendar year. The Feb. 15 date coincides with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish deadline to be included in the outfitter pool for state license tag drawings without penalty.

WIPP: Revised Schedule For Resumption Of Operations In 2016 Announced

The Department of Energy’s Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) approved the new integrated Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).
 
The new PMB integrates WIPP recovery activities, baseline operations and capital asset projects into a single plan with a schedule that identifies a path to resumption of waste emplacement operations.
 
The new PMB considers potential risks that could impact the project and adds appropriate contingency to the schedule to help ensure activities can be achieved
