Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones. Please note the below information is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays.  

Public Works Projects: 

Sherwood Blvd Mapping 

Construction Survey Technologies will begin sub-surface utility mapping on Sherwood Blvd between Aztec Ave and Grand Canyon Drive, and at the Piedra Loop and Sherwood intersection starting Monday.

Canyon Rim Trail Underpass 

Detour is active on N.M. 502, which allows the contractor to work on the north side of the road installing precast concrete boxes.   

Due to the amount of construction activity that includes trenching, excavation and utility relocation near the trailhead, the trailhead parking lot, and a 100 foot section of the trail near the trailhead will be closed for safety.

AUI will be hauling excess material from project site to a site off DP Road. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.  

ADA improvements along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street 

Work continues in the east bound right shoulder of Trinity Drive starting at Canyon View Rd and continuing east to Oppenheimer. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Traffic signs and devices will shift vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic around the work zones. 

Access to residents and businesses as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.  

North Mesa Roadway and Utilities Improvement Project (Casa de Oro)

TLC Plumbing and Utility continues road and utility improvements on Alamo Rd, Capulin Rd, Tsankawi St, Oro Ct, Tsankawi Ct, Cedro Ct, and Big Rock Lp South. The contractor will continue removing and replacing concrete sidewalks, driveway aprons and curb and gutter in selected areas along Capulin Road, Alamo Rd, Tsankawi Court and Cedro Court. Paving will begin Monday for Big Rock Loop South and Cedro Court.

Utility work will continue on Cedro Court and Big Rock Loop (south) including the installation of new gas and water lines to residences. Utility work on Capulin Road includes lighting, water and gas lines. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.

Leisure Lagoon (addition to the Aquatic Ctr.)

The bike lane along Canyon Road by the United Church remains closed pending repaving.  Bicyclists are encouraged to ride in the driving lane as the material in the bike lane is soft.  The sidewalk is also closed in this area, but pedestrians can walk in the bike lane area between the traffic control devices and construction fence.   

Traffic & Streets Division Projects:

Lane Closures and Detours on Central at 15th Street

Traffic Electricians will continue replacing traffic signal heads at the intersection of Central Ave. and 15th Street through next Friday. There will be detours and lane closures as they move through the intersection. Work will commence each day at 9 a.m. and finish at 3 p.m.

Sidewalk Closures on Kimberly Lane and Pueblo Drive

Crews will be performing concrete work along Kimberly Ln in White Rock and on Pueblo Dr in Los Alamos. A sidewalk closure will be in place with detour signs for pedestrian traffic. Work will begin at 8 a.m. Monday and will be completed by Friday. 

Countywide Road Striping

Crews continue their annual road striping project until complete, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and finishing daily by 3:30 p.m. 

Dept. of Public Utilities Projects:

The projects listed in this section are being conducted by DPU. For more information, please contact the Customer Care Center at 662.8333.

Utility work on La Paloma and La Vista in White Rock

DPU electric line crews will replace an underground electric primary cable in the southeast intersection of La Paloma and La Vista Dr beginning Monday and continuing through Friday with work hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic impacts will be minimal. No power interruption is anticipated.  

Non-County Projects: 

The following road construction updates are posted below in the interest of keeping residents informed, but are being managed or conducted by others. Please obey all traffic devices and slow down in work zones. Please direct questions or concerns to the project contact listed below:

West Road Construction (LANL):

West Road is closed to through next Friday for construction and maintenance. For the public’s safety, this includes bicyclists and pedestrians. Use West Jemez or State Road 4 instead. Road work and roadside fire mitigation are expected to continue into July. 

Bikini Atoll Drive (LANL):

Bikini Atoll Drive will be closed to through traffic and pedestrians in June. Follow driver and pedestrian detours. Workers will trench across the road to install a new power line for the Strategic Computing Complex (SCC).  

NM502 Roundabout Project (State DOT/Star Paving)

Work is wrapping up on landscaping in the medians and roundabout area. Slow down and use caution; be alert to workers in or near the roadway over the next two weeks addressing final roadway items related to the pavement and irrigation for medians, bike lanes and curb/gutter; traffic may be temporarily restricted while crews move in or through the roundabout to address various items.

Related to NM502: Canyon Rim Trail repairs near roundabout (Star Paving)

While not a roadway project, crews will be actively entering and exiting this congested area along NM502 to address a section of the Canyon Rim Trail in need of repairs. The section of Canyon Rim Trail that extends behind Smith’s grocery store to behind the East Rd Fire Station will be closed Monday through Friday while crews from Star Paving repair the trail path.

1010 Central Ave. – Sidewalk Closure (R and M Construction)

Sidewalk access on the north side of Central Ave from 1000 Central Ave. to the entrance to the Bradbury Museum complex is closed to pedestrian traffic through Tuesday. Pedestrian traffic is detoured to the south side of Central Ave at Knecht St and then detoured at the intersection of Central Ave and 15th to the north side of Central Ave. Contact: Robert Sanchez 505.927.2027.  

1010 Central Ave – Road Closure (R and M Construction)

In addition to the sidewalk closure, a road closure continues through Tuesday from the intersection of Central Ave. at Knecht St. Westbound traffic is detoured to Knecht St. to Trinity Dr. Northbound traffic on Knecht St is unable to make a left turn onto Central. Canyon Rd. Conduit/Fiber Installation – Road and Sidewalk Closures (Sons Communications)

Crews continue installing new conduit and fiber through Thursday, which includes closing the sidewalk along Canyon Rd between 4th Street and Nugget. Crews begin each day at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. Contact Anita Morales 505.410.2384.

Navajo Rd Conduit/Fiber Installation – Sidewalk Closure and Flagging Operation (Sons Communications)

Crews will begin installing new conduit and fiber on Navajo Rd between San Juan and El Nido starting Monday and continuing through June 29. Work will begin each day at 8 a.m. and end by 6 p.m. Expect sidewalk closures in this area and intermittent flagging operations as needed. Contact Anita Morales 505.410.2384.

Los Pueblos Conduit/Fiber Installation – Sidewalk Closure and Flagging Operation (Sons Communications)

Sons Communications will be installing new conduit and fiber on Los Pueblos between 90 San Juan to 580 Los Pueblos starting Monday and continuing through June 29.
