HOWARD OVERTON RICHERSON April 13, 1930 March 21, 2016

Howard Overton Richerson, 85, a resident of Los Alamos, born April 13, 1930, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel (Scott) and Freida Richerson; siblings, Barbara Winters, Geraldine Wade and Nathaniel (Bud) Richerson; children, Rebecca Richerson-Farris and Jeffery Richerson. Howard grew up with an appreciation for the mountains and the landscape of the Southwest. He moved to Los Alamos where he met and married his wife Carmen. Balderas Announces $605,000 In Judgements Against Brothers In Meth Money Laundering Case

ALAMOGORDO Attorney General Hector Balderas has announced that an Alamogordo judge, the Honorable James W. Counts, assessed $605,000 in penalties against brothers Joe and Robert Chavez, nicknamed “the AZ Boys”, who ran a meth-trafficking operation between New Mexico and Arizona.

Joseph Lynn Parkinson, born January 2, 1933 in Pintura, Utah, died on March 27, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
 
Lynn was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, tennis, and golf. He was also an excellent gardener. Lynn met his bride, Joy, while attending college at Cedar City, Utah. They were married on September 14, 1955.

The Los Alamos Police Association Local #14, a unit of the International Union of Police Associations (I.U.P.A.), successfully negotiated and outstanding contract with the County of Los Alamos.

LAPS Announces PARCC Testing Changes

LAPS News:

It’s almost time for Los Alamos students to take their PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) exams this year. 

The PARCC window opens April 4 with the Los Alamos Middle School being the first to test on April 7.

School-by-school PARCC schedules are posted on individual websites. Most schools will finish testing within 5 or 6 days with a couple of extra days for make-ups. While the standardized tests will be similar to last year, some aspects of the overall experience have changed.

LANL: Holistic Data Analysis And Modeling Poised To Transform Protein X-ray Crystallography

Conventional protein X-ray diffraction images are processed to remove the sharp Bragg reflections, producing noisy images of diffuse intensity, left. Images from multiple crystal orientations are integrated into a 3-D dataset in which the signal is statistically averaged (center, showing a level surface of diffuse intensity in three-dimensions). The 3-D data show greatly enhanced diffuse features, as seen in simulated diffraction images obtained using the integrated data (right, compare to left panel).
