8th Annual Dolores Huerta Day Of Service Friday

RCCC News:

Nearly 350 grade school students and dozens of adult volunteers will descend on La Plazita Gardens at Sanchez Farm 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, March 31 in Albuquerque, to learn about farming, César Chávez, Dolores Huerta and the migrant farm workers’ movement.

Many organizations and individuals are involved in organizing and volunteering to teach children in a fun, culturally enriched environment.

Bradley Johns of Troop 222 in Los Alamos recently achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The designation “Eagle Scout” was founded more than 100 years ago and only four percent of Boy Scouts are granted this rank after a lengthy review process.

County Testing Parks And Golf Course Sprinklers

COUNTY News:

Over the next few weeks, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Division crews will be out and about testing the sprinkler systems at the athletic fields, parks and the Golf Course during daylight hours.

This is part of the PROS Division’s annual water audit to check for any sprinkler head adjustments, broken sprinklers or lines needing repairs/replacement. Once the systems are checked out, staff will place the sprinklers on a timed system for early or evening irrigation.

ALBUQUERQUE ― The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is again the location for the 24th annual César Chávez Day Fiesta April 1, featuring musical and dance acts as well as poetry, community exhibits, children’s activities and games, food, and a keynote speech by Dolores Huerta.

Let’s keep Los Alamos litter free. Join the fun and help tidy up the community by collecting trash and recyclables from your neighborhoods and public places.

“The Shack” is the long-awaited film version of the 2007 novel of the same name, written by Canadian author William P. Young. If you have read the book, you will know to bring plenty of tissues to the film. SANTA FE ― Santa Fe Community College will celebrate the third annual Native American Week March 27 through March 31.

SFCC’s Native American Student Outreach Coordinator Valerie Grimley, Ph.D. said, “We’ve got an exciting program this year that celebrates our increased enrollment of Native American students.” There are 462 Native American students enrolled at the college in Academic Year 2016-2017. The current number represents a 34.4 percent increase since Academic Year 2013-14, when there were 344 Native American students attending SFCC.
