New Mexico Department Of Cultural Affairs Requests $37.25 Million In General Funds For FY23

SANTA FE — During testimony Monday before the Legislative Finance Committee (LFC), New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA) Secretary Debra Garcia y Griego requested $37.25 million in general funds for the agency’s fiscal year 2023 operating budget.
These funds will ensure ongoing education, protection, and preservation of the state’s rich cultural resources. This represents a 10 percent increase over fiscal year 2022.

PED Challenges Students To Design, Build Little Libraries

SANTA FE — The Public Education Department Tuesday launched competitions for New Mexico schools to design and build little lending libraries to celebrate the state’s Year of Literacy.
Schools can compete in one or both of two categories to design or build a little library based on specifications provided. Rubrics that include points for in-school and community collaboration will be used to judge both designs and completed libraries.

New Mexico History Museum Receives $172,564 Grant To Support Exhibition On Miguel Trujillo Of Isleta Pueblo

SANTA FE — New Mexico History Museum (NMHM) has received a $172,564 grant award from the National Endowment for the Humanities’ American Rescue Plan to pursue research related to an upcoming exhibition on Miguel Trujillo (Isleta Pueblo).
This exhibition will explore his victorious 1948 court case against the State of New Mexico to secure voting access for Native Americans living on tribal lands.

Los Alamos Public Schools is celebrating Native American Heritage Month during November.
The School Board unanimously approved the Native American Heritage Month Resolution at its Tuesday night meeting recognizing the rich and diverse cultures, and contributions of Native Americans and will continue to support the work to preserve the language, history and traditions of tribes and pueblos.
