New Hours For Property Tax Exemptions Clinic For Veterans

Representatives from the Los Alamos County Assessor’s office and the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services advise that the start time has changed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the Saturday, March 16 clinic to assist veterans with property tax exemptions.

Military veterans and unmarried widows of veterans are encouraged to visit the American Legion Post 90, 1325 Trinity Drive, Los Alamos, anytime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16.

About 50 parent and community volunteers are needed to help Saturday, May 25, 2024, for the community-sponsored, all-night high school graduation celebration event known as Senior Appreciation Night (SAN). The senior event still needs to raise $6,000 of its $12,000 budget.

SAN is 40-years-old this year; it was started by parent and community leaders in 1984 as a way to keep youth from dangerous mountain celebrations. Read More

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) will be on a 2-hour delay this morning due to winter weather.

Buses will run 2 hours after their regular time.

SANTA FE — Santa Fe Community College’s student biofuels team, Just AD Algae, is one of 15 finalists in the national AlgaePrize 2023-2025 Competition. The announcement came from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) in a Feb. 1 press release.

As one of 15 finalists, selected from 49 entries by a panel of industry experts, the SFCC team will spend about 15 months working on their research project. Los Alamos Public Schools had 26 students compete at the 2024 Regional Science Fair held at New Mexico Highlands University.

Twenty-four students placed in their division.

Two Los Alamos High School students, Tate Plohr and Helena Welch, placed Best of Show which means they will be attending the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles, Calif. in May.
